Atmel Partners with Intel to Support its EPID Technology on Atmel Solutions
SAN JOSE, CA: Atmel Corporation, provider of microcontroller and touch technology solutions, collaborates with Intel to bring secure IoT applications to the market. With this partnership, Atmel will now support, Intel’s EPID (Enhanced Privacy ID) on all its Atmel SmartConnect wireless solutions. This will enhance security on cloud provisioning which is the mutual authentication of IoT node on the cloud.
Atmel’s SmartConnect solutions bring wireless internet connectivity to an embedded design. Atmel provides IoT solutions that combine Atmel, SMART MCUs along with SmartConnect wireless technologies ranging from WiFi, 802.15.4 and Bluetooth and Atmel secure products. This integration with Intel will allow the users of Atmel SmartConnect solutions to use Intel’s EPID identification standard to improve security of IoT applications.
Intel’s EPID delivers device based identity, allowing devices to be verified as part of the group rather than its individual private key and is PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) compatible. With EPID, devices can be identified and a secure communication can be linked between the devices. Moreover, enhanced security can be provided by determining group membership without disclosing the identity of any specific platform or group. EPID can assign and revoke group membership by individuals.
"Implementing Intel EPID offers IoT designers a truly seamless edge-to-cloud Internet of Things platform with proven security options available with our broad Internet of Things portfolio. With this new technology, Atmel's SmartConnect wireless and IoT solutions now support Intel EPID, a security technology that has been proven over the last 5 years,” says Kaivan Karimi, VP and GM, Wireless Solutions, Atmel Corporation.
