Avago Technologies Launches Multi-Reader Storage Read Channel
SAN JOSE, CA: Avago Technologies, developer and supplier of analog, digital, mixed signal and optoelectronics components and subsystems, has introduced a multi-reader HDD read channel in Silicon.
The company has launched the channel to support the product evolution of next-generation HDD controllers with high-performance data rates up to 4.0GHz and allows Array Reader Magnetic Recording (ARMR) targeted at offering areal densities greater than 1.3 Tb/in square.
By creating the next inflection point in areal density capability, the Avago multi-reader technology is inexpensive and allows SOC execution in less silicon area than previous single-reader HDD SOCs. It has ten times greater capacity than its predecessor’s technology. Also, as it has no performance limitation, it can be deployed in all HDD markets.
Commenting on the new product, Dan Fisher, VP of Marketing, Data Controller Division, Avago, says, “The Avago multi-reader HDD read channel is a significant engineering accomplishment that will provide HDD makers with the ability to deliver the increasing storage capacities needed to satisfy all storage markets.”
He further adds, “We are excited to provide a technology that will enable a single 2U server to increase system capacity by an additional three million photos or thirty thousand user email accounts, all without increasing the power or physical footprint of prior generation platforms.”
