Contiv - Cisco's New Cloud to Accelerate Application Deployment with Security and Scale
FREMONT, CA: To tackle the issue pertaining to the security and storage in this cloud storage world, Cisco has released a new containerized application called the “Contiv”.
The project Contiv mainly focuses on deploying operational infrastructure policies for container based applications found in public and private clouds which helps in enhancing the tools and techniques designed for collecting, analyzing and managing large volumes of data generated at high velocity. Contiv networking is mainly focused on controlled infrastructure and security where it uses open source software called Ceph to increase the persistency and increase the storage. Contiv contains the policies that align the composition of micro services to an application's purpose. Each micro service has a specific task and uses a relatively simple, well-defined interface to communicate with other modular services. The technology also handles the integration of layer 4-7 services, such as load balancers, firewalls and encryption. Contiv also compliments application intent with the ability to specify infrastructure operational policies for network, storage and compute elements of the physical and virtual infrastructure by directly mapping the application intent, with the infrastructure policy required.
The containerized application Contiv features: Unified data management platform, Support for multiple data types, Scalable data ingestion, Information security – specific analytics tools and Compliance reporting.
While it's too soon to predict Contiv's impact on the container market, "Cisco has the knowledge and expertise needed to make Contiv a successful project," says Scott Johnston, Senior Vice President of Product Management at San-Francisco-based startup Docker.
