Digitalization is Changing Healthcare
Over the past few years, mobile technology and digitization have remapped the healthcare landscape. According to an Accenture survey, use of mobile health apps and wearables has increased manifold since 2014, with consumers preferring self-service digital tools for health management. The wearable tech enhances the accuracy of health information collected from the patients and eases the work of physicians, pharmacies, and hospitals in providing healthcare services.
As per a study on 2,301 consumers, the number of consumers ready to share their health information (collected via wearables) with their insurance carriers has increased over the past year. One-fifth of the consumers claimed having already used an AI-powered healthcare service. Majority of the respondents expressed keenness to utilize AI-based clinical services such as home-based diagnostics, virtual nurses, and health assistants that help monitor health and medication at home.
Also, digitization reduces overhead costs for patients and healthcare providers while also complementing timely healthcare. A decreased need for lower-ranking medical professionals is possible with their jobs being performed by technology that patients are gradually relying more upon.
Also, doctors will develop more advanced care with retailers focusing more on pharmacy and healthcare business. Acceleration of the drug supply is possible with apps and wearables soon facilitating prescription medication refills and modification of prescription drugs by the doctor according to the patient's health changes.
Consequently, an increasing number of consumers turning away from traditional doctor's offices and hospitals as digitization is making healthcare products and services easily and remotely accessible to patients. Healthcare is truly on the verge of a massive makeover.
