Drillinginfo Adopts Open Source-Driven Software Defined Storage for High Performance

SANTA CLARA, CA: Drillininfo; the Austin-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) provider of data analytics for the oil and gas industry, announces the adoption of Open Source-driven Software-Defined Storage (OpenSDS) solution of Nexenta.  

Oil companies have to go through several different silos of data for completing regulatory and compliance guidelines; eliminating the percent of risks involved and increasing the possibilities of finding oil. They have to sift through everything from seismic and geological data to legal documents and many more data which keeps on increasing over the years. Currently, Drillinginfo has approximately 900 terabytes (TB) of data, and generates nearly 20-25 TB of data every month.

Drillinginfo’s Chief Technology Officer, Mike Couvillion says, “When our storage architect, Andy Davis, approached me about the company’s growing data storage requirements, we discussed the need to implement a scalable platform that would support our current and future storage requirements.”

The adoption will replace the current storage system of Drillinginfo with NexentaStor, Nexenta's flagship Software-Defined Storage (SDS) platform. It will save the firm a lot of money owing to the redundancy provided by Nexenta system. It can be put on Supermicro, which costs around $416/TB; below the industry average and without additional licensing for replication. NexentaStor is a smart solution that has been designed to deliver unified file and block storage services, deployed on industry standard hardware. It is capable of scaling terabytes to petabyte configurations, and includes all data management functionality by default.
