SANTA CLARA, CA: Drobo, the storage arrays manufacturer brings out the ‘B810n’ hybrid storage system based on BeyondRAID technology. The product is said to be 5 times faster than the previous version; incorporates features like automation and technical strength usually found with expensive enterprise solutions.

The product is considered to be ideal among other products when compared in terms of price, ease-of-use and data security. Being suitable for small and medium-sized businesses, the model works with the strategy of collaboration and creative workflows. It is also useful for home entertainment maintaining personalized media library; and for backup purposes.

Frequently used transactional data can be retrieved and shared across all connected clients and applications with ease. The storage model is a combination of high-performance Hard Disk Drives (HDD) and Solid State Drives (SSD) offering both read and write functions. Streaming data and transactional data are distinguished to provide better user experiences, with intelligent tiering. Automatic data reallocation between the 2 drives makes it smarter technology.

Significant new features— battery-backed cache and eUSB protects data that is yet to be saved to disk in case of power failure. Other features are: active background data scrubbing; periodical verification of user data and metadata; regular search and repair of corrupted data. The pending cache pre-heat functionality recovers the cache metadata saved to disk, once the power is on.

The base technology, BeyondRAID is capable of securing the user data even during multiple disk failures. This can be included by switching from single to dual disk redundancy, more often called dual parity data protection. On drive failure, the data is moved to ‘protected state’ for self-healing with its hot-spares.
