ESG Validates the Report on DataCore Solutions

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL: DataCore, provider of Parallel Powered Software-Defined Storage and Hyper-converged Virtual SAN solutions announced the results of a hands-on evaluation and testing recently performed by Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG) Lab.  The important aspect of the report is that it demonstrates “Top 10 Biggest Storage Challenges”. Lab tests have been conducted to assess the value of DataCore’s infrastructure-wide storage virtualization and hyper-converged solutions for the data centers, and to validate the flexibility and ease of management in a heterogeneous, highly virtualized environment.

“We found the software easy to implement and manage, virtualizing any storage infrastructure with enterprise-class features and functionality while enhancing performance. ESG Lab was especially impressed with DataCore’s parallel I/O technology and its ability to deliver enterprise-class performance running on low-cost commodity hardware,” said Tony Palmer, Senior Lab Analyst, ESG Lab.

Some of the highlights of ESG Lab Validation are:

Allows Enterprise-class Hyper-converged Data Infrastructure: A pair of servers running a hypervisor and DataCore Hyper-converged Virtual SAN furnishes a platform for operating multiple simulated applications and enterprise workloads.  Further Sstudy revealed that virtualizing infrastructure with DataCore Hyper-converged Virtual SAN was intuitive. An additional server was installed and added to the Failover Cluster, where the application is online and continuously available. The hyper-converged solution introduces range of performance and application adaptive acceleration capabilities, including its parallel I/O software.

Rapid response times and Industry-leading price performance obtained: DataCore’s parallel I/O software technology employs multi-core processors to optimize and schedule I/O processing. It also actively senses I/O load being generated by multiple VMs concurrently.  SANsymphony has responded at about two orders of magnitude below the 30 milliseconds response time threshold set by the Storage Performance Council and at 0.32 milliseconds, which is a new SPC-1 price performance record.

VMware vSphere Storage Management is made easier: The integration of DataCloud virtually turns any storage to become VVol capable, enabling VMware vSphere administrators to self-provision virtual volumes from virtual storage pools.

Cost-effective performance maximized by automation of Infrastructure-wide Storage Tiering: The DataCore solution dedicated all their resources to perform storage operations for the application. As a result, the software reported a total of 1,392 IOPS, a 700% improvement over the non-tiered storage pool.

Integrates an array of advanced Data Protection capabilities: Synchronous mirroring across metropolitan areas, automated failover and self-healing, full and incremental snapshots, roll-back in time Continuous Data Protection (CDP), and asynchronous remote replication to distant disaster recovery sites are few such features. Moreover, DataCore’s CDP capability enables rollback to a specific point in time without having to create multiple shots because of its easy configuration.

ESG earlier conducted a survey involving 373 IT professionals and respondents revolving around the biggest challenges they would encounter in regards to their storage environment. A significant focus on both data growth and data protection (each cited by 26 percent of respondents), as well as staff costs and data migration (coming in at 23 percent each) has surfaced. Furthermore, hardware costs (27 percent) were the most significant storage challenge. The report points out to the fact that surpassing total cost of ownership, including the rising human resource and hardware costs are now the primary business motivators driving the momentum to deploy software-defined storage solutions such as those from DataCore.
