Frost & Sullivan Eulogize Top-notching Cyber Security Technologies of Alcatel-Lucent

FREMONT, CA: Frost & Sullivan has been presenting award to the company that has developed an innovative solution by leveraging leading-edge technologies every year. It is now Alcatel-Lucent’s turn to bag the award for its flagship solution “Smart Grid Communications”, that provides end-to-end security to reduce cyber attacks over utility networks. Alcatel-Lucent is an IP networking, ultra-broadband access and cloud technology specialist offers a premium cyber security solution to utilities, which efficaciously fitted to the broad range of utility applications. The solution protects universal data traffic types through encryption at the Internet Protocol (IP) layer similar to typical IPSec gateway, or at the multi-protocol label switching (MPLS), optical, and microwave layers on a secure network grid.

Alcatel-Lucent IP/MPLS product provides strong mechanisms to secure the management, control, and data planes reducing cyber attacks. Its capabilities include Quality of Service-enabled stateful firewall, Access Control Lists (ACL); traffic rate control and queuing; comprehensive user Authentication, Authorization, Accounting (AAA). Alongside, it also comprises of strong password security provided by SNMPv3 confidentiality, integrity features; Secure Shell (SSH) encryption; and exponential back-off. “Significantly, all Alcatel-Lucent’s capabilities and product features are managed centrally with a policy-based approach from a multi-layer, service-aware manager, the 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM),” said Avimanyu Basu, Senior Research Analyst, Frost & Sullivan.

The solution can be deployed in hybrid configurations for small and mid-size businesses (SMB), mid-market companies, as well as enterprises of all sizes. The company also offers, HMAC-MD5 for control plane packets, 802.1x for unauthorized device connection, network address translation (NAT) for addressing, and Network Group Encryption (NGE) for data confidentiality and authentication.
 
Various components comprising the product include 7705 Service Aggregation Router (SAR), 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) and 9500 Microwave Packet Radio (MPR). “There is also a Service Portal Express for Utilities management system, which is essentially a portal that works on the top of 5620 SAM to simplify daily tasks,” adds Basu.
