A multitude of apps and websites are being developed to leverage gamification for delivering better learning experiences. The novel, exciting and interesting aspects of the gaming experience inspire creativity, knowledge retention, and problem-solving skills that aid learners both personally and professionally. Gamification elements such as levels, badges, and scoreboards facilitate immediate feedback that helps identify academic strengths and weaknesses to motivate better engagement and performance.

Scientifically, gamification signals the release of neurotransmitter Dopamine that stimulates the brain's pleasure centers, helping learners develop a liking for the subject matter and enhance long-term memory (LTM).

Gamification provides learners the opportunity to hone their various skills by practicing real-life situations in safety, with the mistakes made while learning having no dangerous consequences. Gamification also aids eLearning with online tools that save time and money and online training that is standardized and accessible to learners. The social aspect of gamification fosters a  positive competitive spirit against fellow learners from all over the globe, inspiring collaboration skills—a requisite in the 21st-century work environment.

Research has indicated the success of gamification in benefiting learning in various areas such as onboarding training, product sales, certification courses, customer support, and compliance. Games can especially benefit learning for students who dislike reading and require motivation to improve their academic performance especially in subjects perceived as uninteresting. However, for applications of gamification to benefit learning, high-quality educational games based on credible research are required.

All in all, coupled with high tech tools, and a technologically informed educator, gamification does benefit learning both in the classroom and outside.
