Going the Blended Learning Way in the Classroom
The adaptability of blended learning helps teachers to meet the needs of all the students in the classroom with proper instruction.
FREMONT, CA: Imagine a scenario where students are in their classroom and the teachers is not at the usual place but is at a different place altogether at that point in time, and the class still takes place without a glitch. The state of affairs will be seen more in common with the rise of use in blended learning techniques.
Characteristics of Blended Learning
When teachers ask students to review a video or read an article online before the school starts, then educators automatically become the guides to blended learning. The approach of learning brings out the best in teachers and students that constitutes to self-directed learning. In most classrooms, the characteristics below define blended learning:
• Teachers depend on technology to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the students.
• Pupils understand and follow routines effortlessly, allowing little to no disturbance in the instruction.
• Every activity, assignment, and action given by the educators serves a purpose, and there won’t be anything as busy work or wasted time.
Blended Learning in Classroom
Teachers can make use of online media like an explainer video or short clips to explain a lesson as it offers better insight into the concepts. Educators can begin by determining which model suits students well and then establish it in their blended learning instruction.
• Face-to-Face Driver Model: The form helps in providing online guidance on a case-by-case basis, that is only some students in a class can participate in the face-to-face learning model.
• Rotation Model: In rotation model, students rotate between different centers at a fixed time- either by spending face-to-face time with the teachers or work online.
• Flex Model:In the flex model, most of the instruction is delivered online.
Blended Learning Phases
• Phase One: In phase one, the educator communicates to the whole class and provides students with a general direction and a to-do list. Learners, thereby, will be responsible for completing the task on their list. Educators should encourage students in accomplishing the assignments regardless of the blended learning model chosen.
• Phase Two: Phase two makes up for personalized instruction. As students become more focused on completing their task, teachers can differentiate between assignments given to the students and bring in personalization in their teaching.
• Phase Three: Phase three allows students to take ownership of their learning and lets them develop their task list and set their schedules.
