IBM, Brocade to Impart Cloud and Software Defined Networking Skills to College Students
FREMONT, CA: In a technology world where cloud is the new norm, Marist College has made it a point to elevate its students’ technical skills that reflect the current widely implemented technologies including cloud computing and open source networking. To this end, the college has roped in tech bellwethers such as IBM and Brocade for the tools and the infrastructure required in honing its students’ technology skills pertaining to open source networking (software-defined networking or SDN) and cloud administration.
With this deal, IBM will bring its cloud management solution, IBM Cloud Orchestrator, to the table. Students through this solution can learn to perform task coordination on the cloud across teams, tools, and environments. They will also learn automated deployment and lifecycle management of various workloads via an easy-to-use interface.
Brocade on the other hand offers Vyatta 5400 vRouter through which students can build cutting edge, multi-tier networks within virtualized environments by manipulating network services on demand. These experiences in their college lab will enable them with an expertise necessary to solve complex IT and network issues on the cloud.
"The network is critical to the cloud. We are ensuring the proficiency of students by providing them access to the latest networking technology skills due to the rise of cloud models, and at the same time, are advancing our program as a center of technological innovation," said Robert Cannistra, Senior Professional Lecturer of Computer Science and Information Technology, New York's Marist College.
