IBM Taps Actifio For SmartCloud Data Virtualization Service

By CIOReview | Tuesday, February 11, 2014

Fremont, CA: The technology giant IBM has partnered with data management specialist Actifio to launch a new data virtualization service for its portfolio of cloud-based enterprise offerings. The new service, IBM SmartCloud Data Virtualization (SCDV), leverages Actifio’s Virtual Data Pipeline technology to manage data without the need for multiple copies.

SCDV enables customers to decouple their application data from their physical infrastructures. By virtualizing data management, IBM’s latest offering effectively beaks down the barriers of independent silos of hardware and software. A single physical copy can be used to create multiple copies, in support of any business application. This platform provides quick recovery and protection of critical data, thereby dramatically reducing the cost of ownership that can be achieved through traditional systems.

“As part of our growing portfolio of cloud software, services and expertise that help clients tackle any IT or business challenge with confidence, security and trust, SCDV will not only offer many customers faster recovery times at better price points, it will enable them to leverage their protected data as a business asset rather than simply an insurance policy,” says Laurence Guihard-Joly, General Manager for IBM’s Business Continuity and Resiliency Services.

This technology is bound to appeal to enterprises that need multiple copies of data while also reducing storage costs.
