FREMONT, CA: Juniper Networks, in conjunction with Amdocs has designed an automated Virtualized Customer Premises Equipment (vCPE) solution to meet the demands of enterprise customers. Juniper Networks is a provider of high-performance networking solutions and Amdocs provides software to communications, media and entertainment service providers.

This jointly developed Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) based solution integrates Juniper’s vMX router and vSRX firewall with Amdocs Network Cloud Service Orchestrator. vMX is a carrier-grade router with complete control, forwarding and management planes and runs the Junos Operating System. One of the key features of the router is enabling new service introductions without reconfiguring the existing routing infrastructure. . Using virtualization technology and its consistency with physical MX Series portfolio simplifies operations as well as swift services.

Complementing the router is the vSRX firewall (Firefly Perimeter) which carries out the process with stateful packet processing and application-layer gateway features in a virtual machine format. It supports virtual network interface cards (vNICS) session-based forwarding in order to achieve a higher level of performance and scalability. Firefly Perimeter automates the configuration, provisioning, management, monitoring, and reporting of its virtual machines. Its threat management framework combines the capabilities of cloud-based Unified Threat Management (UTM) and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS).

Amdocs completes the solution by contributing Network Cloud Service Orchestrator which is an open, catalog-driven solution designed to help service providers transition from physical networks to cloud service environments. It assimilates customer information and real-time network circumstances to create and manage network services.

Additionally, the joint offering will provide a user portal for self-service selection, a service catalog and service creation capability along with delivery and managed services options to help service providers transition to an IT cloud operating model. The solution also involves Juniper Networks Contrail Networking, which is an open (SDN) solution for cloud and NFV.

“By integrating Juniper’s virtual routing and security platforms through open interfaces and leveraging the powerful service chaining that Contrail brings, Amdocs is able to seamlessly integrate physical and virtualized network functions into a platform for service delivery,” says Mike Marcellin, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Strategy, Juniper Networks.
