SAN JOSE, CA: LynuxWorks, a provider of open and reliable RTOS and software tools to embedded developers has announced the latest version of its LynxOS-178, LynxOS-178 2.2.3. This version brings LynxOS-178 to new Power Architecture based platforms and designs that provide new features for avionics developers, reports THOMASNET News.

LynxOS-178 is a real-time operating system based on open standards Application Program Interfaces.  It is the only Commercial-Off-The-Shelf operating system that receives Reusable Software Component acceptance from the Federal Aviation Administration for DO-178B certification. Reusable Software Component’s certification offers a speedier, smoother and more reliable development path for system integrators.

LynxOS-178 2.2.3 that offers both a native POSIX API and FACE API for easy migration of software helps in reducing the cost and risk related to renewability of the software components. LynxOS-178 2.2.3 is based on a new set of Power Architecture optimized tools to offer an easy migration for existing designs to new Power Architectures. These architectures include QorIQ family Freescale’s QorIQ family, off-the-shelf BSPs for COTs and development boards, GE Intelligent Systems and Curtiss Wright Controls.

"With this latest version of LynxOS-178, LynuxWorks is offering its industry leading safety critical RTOS for use on the next generation of avionics platforms built using the Power Architecture processors. New optimizations in the product will also offer better performance and memory utilization for avionics developers to manage the Size, Weight, Power and Cost for their new designs,” said John Blevins, Director of Product Marketing, LynuxWorks.
