FREMONT, CA: Magellan, a portable GPS navigation company consumer electronics company, has announced Echo Fit sports tracker watch that is compatible with third party apps.

The smartwatch is built rugged and water resistant to handle demands of virtually any sports or physical activity. It permits users to view data recorded including steps, calories burnt, distance covered and sleep activity. The watch can be paired with a heart-rate monitor and has an ability to generate alerts after accomplishing daily step goals utilizing Magellan Echo Utility App. The collected data can be uploaded to the cloud and shared according to the user needs using Magellan Active app.

Echo uses Bluetooth Smart to communicate with the smartphones and currently compatible with  Apple’s iPhone 4S or later as well as Android’s Kitkat 4.4 or later. The device is capable of displaying alerts for texts, emails, social networking notification and incoming calls. It serves as a remote control for music and sports apps. Monochrome display is crafted to be readable in direct sunlight and has a backlight support for darker conditions. Echo series uses ultra low power technology and runs on a replaceable coin cell battery which gives a runtime about eight months. Device supports wide range of third party fitness apps including Runkeeper, AllTrails and Golfpad.

"As the latest addition to our Echo Series, the Echo Fit adds activity and sleep-tracking capabilities while continuing to solve the biggest problem of participating in a sport or exercise with a smartphone -- conveniently viewing and controlling sports apps without interrupting the game or workout," remarked Stig Pedersen, Magellan AVP, Product management. "With the phone safely tucked away, Echo Fit becomes a powerful display, acts as a remote control, and saves smartphone battery life. No matter the sport or the activity, Echo Fit can meet the unique needs of each individual."
