Marvell's 4G LTE Modem Drives Alps' Data Communication Module

SANTA CLARA, CA: Alps Electric, a manufacturer of electronic devices, has announced the release of UMDZ 4G LTE Data Communication module which features Marvell's ARMADA Mobile PXA1801 multi-mode 4G LTE modem. Marvell Technology Group is a provider of semiconductor products for storage, communications and consumer needs.

The automotive UMDZ 4G LTE module has a very small footprint and comes with built in multi mode support for 2G, 3G and 4G. PXA1801 modem, which is at the core of the module is enabled to perform efficiently in mobile applications like mobile video, social networking, and web browsing which require greater bandwidth. It integrates 2G, 3G and 4G technologies on a single chip and can reach download speeds of 150 megabits-per-second (Mbps) and upload speeds of 50Mbps.

The LTE modem is backwards compatible with Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) network and supports Time-Division Duplex-Long-Term Evolution (TDD-LTE) and Frequency-Division Duplex-Long-Term (FDD-LTE), Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) and Enhanced GPRS (EGPRS) networks. It comes with a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) core and ARM auxiliary core with packet accelerators.

ARMADA PXA1801 has been validated by Global certification Forum (GCF) and field trial testing on cellular networks, and can support mobile connectivity for laptops and mobile devices through integration on to data card and dongle form factor.  It comes with ARM and Digital Signal Processor (DSP) cores with packet processing accelerators and can support multi-radio platform capability, Voice over Internet protocol (VoIP), IP Multimedia Core Network Subsystem (IMS) and other carrier services.
