Microchip Enables Feasible Implementation of Reversible-Plug Connector for USB Devices with UTC2000, USB-C
CHANDLER, AZ: Microchip Technology, provider of microcontroller, mixed-signal, analog and Flash-IP solutions annexes UTC2000, USB-C controller to its portfolio of USB devices. The new device enables designers of a wide range of applications incorporating the consumer, industrial and automotive markets to feasibly implement the radically updated USB-C connectorcost effectively, speeding time to market and minimizing bills of materials. Based in a 16-pin QFN package, the UTC2000 controller's small form factor makes it possible for USB-C connectors to be deployed in mobile applications.
The USB-C cable has the capacity to supply data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps and 100W of continuous power flow and ultra-high-bandwidth video capabilities transmitted through alternate modes within a single connection and cable.UTC2000 controller can be designed-in to any existing product to upgrade to USB Type-C. Holding up to 15W of power, the device is ideal for a wide range of applications in the consumer ( notebooks, printers and accessories, docking stations, mobile devices and battery chargers), industrial (computers and handheld devices) and automotive markets ( head units, break-out boxes and USB battery chargers), among others.It provides the system a way to detect a USB Type-CT cable is inserted or removed, detects which direction the cable is plugged in, and then controls the rest of the system to do its job.
