Organizations to Move towards Proven Technologies in 2016, Forecasts CEO of MapR

SAN JOSE, CA: The storing, analyzing and processing of data is changing businesses. John Schroeder, Co-founder and CEO of MapR, finds acceleration in Big Data deployments and has crystallized his views of market trends into five prominent predictions for 2016.             

According to Schroder, in 2016, the converged approaches, which were optional earlier, will become the mainstream. Hybrid Transaction/ Analytical Processing (HTAP), a term used to describe the capability of a single database that can perform both online transaction processing and online analytical processing for real-time operational intelligence processing, will soon become conventional as organizations collect the advantages of combining production workloads with analytics to adjust quickly to changing customer preferences, competitive pressures and business conditions. This change will eradicate the difference between analytics and business impact.            

Earlier, organizations used to believe in centralized distribution and deployment of Big Data but the forecast by Schroeder points out that soon the businesses will move to distributed processing for Big Data to tackle the issues of managing several devices, several data centers, different global use cases and transforming overseas data security rules. According to him, the continued growth of Internet of Things (IoT), cheap IoT sensors, fast networks, and edge processing will further dictate the deployment of distributed processing frameworks.

The future holds great promise for the Flash memory. It is a kind of nonvolatile memory that removes data in units called blocks and a block stored on a flash memory chip must be erased before data can be written, or programmed, to the microchip. It is one of the hot storage market technologies. Schroeder believes that the consumer demand for flash will continue to drive down its cost, and flash deployments in Big Data will begin to deploy. The optimal solution will combine flash and disk to support both fast and dense configurations, so enterprises will not have to choose between fast and dense- they will be able to get both.

New innovations and technologies are the future. Today, enterprises do not hesitate to accept the new innovations, now for them the base of that technology is not important, how proven, and worthy it is the main concern. Schroeder predicts that organizations will increasingly recognize the attraction of software that results in business impact, rather than focusing on raw Big Data technologies.

Finally, MapR’s CEO forecasts that in terms of Big Data technology companies, investors and organizations will turn to focus more on secure options – those companies that have both a proven business model and technology innovations that enable improved business outcomes and operational efficiencies.
