PLYMOUTH, MI: Perceptron, a provider of automated industrial metrology products and solutions to manufacturing organizations has released SMART3D, a laser scanning system that represents a productivity breakthrough for the reverse engineering and modeling sectors.

The SMART3D system offers an automatic rotary table and easy to use SCANWORKS STUDIO Software that enables 'Auto Rescan' Feature and operated scanning systems. The SMART3D system just takes 15 min to become operational. The scanned dataset is streamed real-time into the accompanying Perceptron SCANWORKS STUDIO data collection software with automatic full 3D STL model creation.

The SMART3D System automatically offers 3D polygonised models for reverse engineering, 3D printing or graphical web content. SMART3D comprises Perceptron's patented HELIX smart scanning sensor technology, used usually in the automotive industry for in-process laser scanning of car bodies for dimensional stability and gap and flush measurement. All scanning motion is contained within the HELIX smart scanning sensor, which dramatically improves quality of scanned data while maintaining a volumetric accuracy down to 50 microns.

"The SMART3D product launch extends our position into the broader scanning and reverse engineering sector. SMART3D is innovative, cost-efficient products we plan to launch with our renewed focus and commitment to gaining a leadership position in this fast growing market,” says Jeffrey M. Armstrong, chief executive officer, Perceptron.
