Enterprise Apps World Advisory Board Cites Enterprise Mobile Issues

CIO Review

FREMONT, CA: In today’s world, employees are increasingly using mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets to access cloud services and manage their businesses. The shift to Enterprise mobility allows workers to work outside the office while accessing their company’s secure data to conduct their daily official tasks. This allows them to be more productive and also gives them the liberty to carry on their tasks using their own devices; however there are also issues that are faced due to mobility according to the advisory board for the Enterprise Apps, comprising top and eminent personalities from the IT industry. According to James Bourne, Online Editor, Enterprise AppsTech, enterprise mobile issues which were highlighted by the advisory board session were:

“All the ways we lived the dream with the PC will be exactly the same with mobile”

Similar to how the PC started a revolution, with initial hiccups, when it was first introduced at workplaces, the mobility world too will take the workplace by storm but not without similar hitches. Though there are a lot of ups, the down side according to the panel is related to health and safety.

“We live in a world of four generations of workforce”

The employees of companies which are moving forward with Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) strategies have a different level of attitude and aptitude. Thanks to the world being revolutionized by smartphones!  Security is further threatened as everybody is aware about IT and few also know about its  loopholes. With regards to geographic mobility, the board cited India as an example, as there is more mobility as compared to fixed line access.

“It’s your data, your responsibility”

It is not technology which is responsible for security issues, but it is the workforce. It has been found that employees at work places access websites which are officially blocked and have interlined work and personal emails. The employees have also copied work related information into personal accounts.

“Are companies doing mobility because they feel they have to rather than because they want to?”

The hype that is caused by mobility is causing the companies to join the mobility bandwagon, not because they want to but because they have to.

These are some of the topics of discussion at the Enterprise Apps World which will happen in June 2014.

Conversation volume can rise while the quality of the interaction quietly deteriorates. Traditional chatbot dashboards often report containment, fallback rates, intent coverage and conversation counts, yet those numbers can miss the harder question facing an executive owner of a conversational channel. Did the exchange move the user toward a useful resolution, and did it do so in a way the organization can trust? Generative models make that gap more visible. Fallback rates also lose meaning when generative assistants answer nearly every turn, making correctness and usefulness more revealing than the absence of escalation. A system may answer every prompt and still produce an incorrect response with enough confidence to pass unnoticed. Activity reporting alone is a weak basis for purchase decisions. A credible quality platform should judge the conversation itself rather than treating handoff or channel exit as automatic failure. Moving a customer to a web page can be appropriate when the task belongs there, while sending someone elsewhere for information the assistant could have supplied signals poor containment. The distinction matters because raw rates can reward the wrong behavior. Language analysis also has to reach below surface sentiment. Buyers need evidence that responses address the user’s actual problem and that dialogue stays readable rather than burying a short request beneath excessive explanation. Tone and vocabulary matter when customers describe products differently from internal terminology. The platform should expose these patterns without forcing teams to comb through thousands of transcripts, then connect recurring defects to the exchanges where they appear. Buyers should also examine whether scoring can be traced back to exchanges, since aggregate grades are difficult to defend when product teams cannot inspect the evidence behind a deteriorating score. “Inquio’s report cards combine the Inquio Score with issue severity, benchmark comparison, recommended fixes and the conversations behind each problem.” Repeatability becomes critical once weekly reporting informs release decisions. Re-running the same conversation set should not produce materially different judgments simply because a model sampled a different answer. Security cannot sit outside the quality view either. Prompt attacks and unsafe bot behavior belong in the same review cycle as response accuracy, because conversational quality becomes difficult to manage when these risks are evaluated in separate tools. Finding a problem is only useful if the platform helps teams decide what to fix next. Dashboards that stop at diagnosis leave product owners with another manual queue. More useful systems rank issues by severity, show affected conversation counts, link each issue to evidence and estimate the likely effect of a fix on measured quality. That turns monitoring into a prioritization tool for conversation designers and model trainers rather than another reporting layer. Integration should be equally practical. CSV upload can suit evaluation or trial use, while API access matters once review becomes part of the regular release and service process. Inquio fits this buying logic closely. Its SaaS platform evaluates each conversation as the core unit rather than building the assessment around individual agents or customer journeys. Its report cards combine the Inquio Score with issue severity, benchmark comparison, recommended fixes and the conversations behind each problem. Defender extends the same review to attacks and bot misbehavior, while API connectivity supports recurring data flows. Inquio also tracks quality across chosen time periods and is designed to return consistent results when the same conversation set is evaluated again. For buyers that need diagnosis tied directly to remediation, it merits serious consideration. ...Read more

The hardest mainframe decisions rarely begin with code. They begin when the people who understand the code leave before the business has captured what they know. For executives responsible for mainframe modernization, this creates a narrow buying problem. Service has to reduce risk around aging applications while giving the organization practical options, rather than pushing it toward a rushed migration or a long consulting program that may outrun budget tolerance. Many enterprises still run applications that were shaped over decades by programmers who understood not only COBOL syntax but also the business rules buried inside it. This knowledge was often held in memory, reinforced through maintenance history and informal handoffs. Once those developers retire, application may still run, yet organization loses confidence in changing it. A small modification can require days of tracing dependencies across programs, schedulers, databases and files. Modernization services should be judged by how well they expose those relationships before change begins. Cost pressure adds another constraint. Mainframes remain expensive platforms, and many buyers want lower run costs without weakening systems that still support core transactions. Decision is not always between staying on the mainframe and leaving it. Some applications may be modernized in place, while others may move off platform over time. A credible service provider should help leaders examine application estate, map dependencies and understand business logic clearly enough to choose the right path for each system. “Love’s Financial uses QuickPay, a freight factoring web and mobile system, to let carriers submit invoices from the road and access funding options as fast as 60 minutes.” Talent access also matters. Traditional hiring models are poorly suited to urgent COBOL or systems programming gaps, especially when need is part-time, project-based or tied to a specific technical environment. Buyers should look for access to senior mainframe expertise that can be deployed quickly without turning every staffing shortage into a full-time headcount problem. Stronger model is one that can supplement internal teams, mentor newer staff and preserve continuity while organization builds its own long-term capacity. Documentation must move beyond static manuals. Executives need tools that turn legacy application knowledge into a digital resource that can support impact analysis, maintenance planning, collaboration and future code work. That means tracing what a program touches, how code flows, which business functions are affected by a change and where critical logic sits beneath years of accumulated modification. Service provider’s role is not only to explain current system but to make system easier to work with after engagement ends. The Smith Group fits this buying logic because it approaches mainframe modernization through a network of specialized providers rather than a single fixed delivery model. It connects clients with experienced systems programming and application specialists, including contract resources suited to fill urgent skills gaps. Its work also brings in application discovery and documentation tools such as Docet EV from RES IT, along with Phase Change Software’s COBOL Colleague for code understanding, restructuring and business-logic isolation. For buyers trying to preserve system knowledge while deciding whether to modernize on or off platform, The Smith Group offers a practical route through focused expertise, digital application visibility and staffing support aligned to the actual mainframe problem at hand. ...Read more
