FREMONT, CA: The Knowles Science Teaching Foundation (KSTF) announced its upcoming program, Project ASCENT(Achieving STEM course Effectiveness Through Networked Teachers) with a three day meeting for participants under the guidance and support of Carneige Foundation for Advancement of Teaching and the National Science Foundation.
The conference aims to shed light on issue- too few students are successful in completing advanced science, technology, engineering and mathematics courses. KSTF intends to bring teachers professional skills together to improve education both in and beyond the classrooms and leverage their expertise to find solutions hindering students to adopt STEM education. “We look forward to seeing what is possible when a networked group of teachers are given the support and resources to work together to solve pressing problems in education,” says Nicole Gillespie, executive director, KSTF.
Self-organized teams of teachers from five schools were selected to participate: High Tech High, Millbrook High School, Robert E. Lee High School, Rolling Meadows High School and Westfield High School. Each team will engage in enquiry about the problem, develop methods to implement the solutions , lastly analyze the collected data and evaluate future steps. In short, the conference acts a platform to understand various problems in education system and formulate new techniques to improve.
