SAN FRANCISCO, CA: Punch Through, a hardware and software development firm, has launched the successor product of Bean, Bean+. It is smaller than a credit card and is compatible with Arduino board, which one can program wirelessly using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

With its built-in rechargeable battery, accelerometer, temperature sensor and RGB LED, Bean+ enables developers and prototypers to easily make smartphone-controlled devices. Bean+ also comes up with some new profiles or three Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) profiles, like MIDI, ANCS and HID. MIDI can be used to create musical devices, ANCS for making smart watches, HID for copying wireless peripherals, and “Observer Role” that allows P2P communications between BLE devices.

As Bean+ has larger range than Bean, it supports connected devices at more than 300 meters and its low power consumption and 720 mAh lithium polymer rechargeable battery makes it run for multiple years on one charge.

Commenting on the new release, Colin Karpfinger, CEO, Punch Through, exclaims, “Bean+ is bigger, better and bolder- a Bluetooth Low Energy board that combines power with simplicity, making it easier than ever to create smartphone-controlled projects that are fun, meaningful and can even be used as the building block for commercial products. With the new release, the Bean+ is the most fully featured Arduino-compatible board on the market today.”
