FREMONT, CA: Rackspace announces the beta version of ‘Carina by Rackspace’, an easy-to-use and instant-on native container environment. The latest offering focuses on portability while allowing users to deploy a cluster for their containerized applications faster.

Carina is a container cluster service offering that leverages bare-metal performance, Docker Engine, native container tooling and Docker Swarm for orchestration that make container clusters accessible to everyone. It offers portable container environment with existing Docker tools and bare metal performances for developers, data scientists and operators. The solution utilizes lesser compute resources compared to typical virtual machines, allowing users to scale and increase application density. It also offers “zero infrastructure” container environment for users of those whose infrastructure and Docker environments are managed by Rackspace.

Unlike many platforms Carina uses native Docker API and tooling which will enable developers to move applications from development to test to production environment seamlessly. It runs on top of the server eliminating hypervisor overhead and boost application performance. Customers are now able start quickly with easy install and support features that include instant-on setup, best practice documentation, guides and community forum support.

"At Rackspace, our mission is to give customers industry-leading service and expertise on the world's leading technologies. Carina extends this mission as part of our strategy to support OpenStack's position as a leading choice for enterprise clouds," says Scott Crenshaw, SVP, Strategy and Product, Rackspace. "Carina design makes containers fast, simple and accessible to developers using native container interfaces, while leveraging the infrastructure capabilities of OpenStack."
