RDK Management Provides DVB Support to Improve Next-Gen Video Solution Deployment
PHILADELPHIA, PA: RDK Management – a joint venture between Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Liberty Global to administer the Reference Design Kit (RDK) – announces that RDK provides additional support for the Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) standard.
RDK, a pre-integrated software bundle, facilitates common framework to boost customer-premises equipment (CPE) such as set-top boxes, gateways and converged devices from television service providers. The software accelerates the deployment of next-gen video solutions and services with customization facility of applications and high user experience, reports PR Newswire.
DVB solution provides standard for digital television defining the physical layer and data link layer of the distribution system. DVB System Information (DVB-SI) gives in-band table of contents and required data to RDK-based devices for Electronic Program Guides (EPGs) which facilitates regularly updated menus scheduling information display for current and upcoming programming.
RDK Media Framework (RMF) supports the common process of extracting DVB streams and gives open source reference DVB implementation. With more than 200 licensees including CE manufacturers and software developers, RDK provides common interface to System-on-Chips (SoCs) to allow operator to develop revenue-generating services layer.
