RALEIGH, CA: Red Hat, open source solutions provider joins Node.js Foundation as a Platinum member. The Node.js Foundation is a community-led and industry-backed consortium to advance the development of the Node.js platform. The Foundation functions as a neutral organization to monitor and aid project looked after by the Node.js community. Red Hat being a new member will offer financial support, technical contributions, and high-level policy guidance for the Foundation. The company will collaborate with its co-members to promote and boost Node.js project and technology developments.

“Node.js is becoming a platform of choice for many large enterprises, including those leveraging Red Hat mobile application development technologies. We anticipate that Red Hat will be a valuable member of the Node.js Foundation Board with its knowledge in this space and its overall company ethos of openness,” says Danese Cooper, Chairperson, Node.js Foundation Board.

The open source, server-side JavaScript runtime Node.js launched in June 2015, benefices the developers while building high performance, low latency applications for web, mobile, and Internet of Things (IoT) thus powering  everything from enterprise applications to robots.  The members of the Foundation include Famous, IBM, Intel, Joyent, Microsoft and PayPal as it is represented by a broad spectrum from software vendors, ISVs, end customers, and individual developers.

“We are always mindful where we invest our resources and focus our efforts, and believe the Node.js Foundation has an important role to play in helping to make Node.js successful, as well as the developers using the technology to deploy Node.js applications. We look forward to working alongside our colleagues in the Foundation to help guide the project in the future,” comments Rich Sharples, senior director, Product Management, Red Hat.

Furthermore, it is the open governance model and community collaboration that brings together Red Hat with the foundation. Node.js supports company’s mobile application development, such as the Red Hat Mobile Application Platform which is made available in OpenShift by Red Hat and Red Hat Software Collections.
