Replicated Adopts Docker, Ships Two Identical Versions
FREMONT, CA: Replicated, a new company has adopted the Docker containerization technology to release an installation tool that aims to resolve the issue of maintaining two code bases.
The solution will help developers to code a single time and two replicated versions can be shipped. Out of the two identical versions, one automatically gets installed in the cloud and the other application can be maintained in a private cloud or in a data center owned by the customer.
The installation tool renders information about an instance in the dashboard, provides auditing tools, backup services, integrates with tools such as Active Directory or Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and keeps the user informed about available updates.
The announcement is made based on the idea to support SaaS vendors in shipping their applications' on premise versions more conveniently. Replicated has included three companies- Travis -Cl, Code Climate and NPM as beta customers ,reports Ron Miller for Tech Crunch.
Replicated is the brain child of Grant Miller and Marc Campell, creators of mobile customer service chat application, Look.io."If applications become more portable, a company could ship a docker image to host behind the firewall," says Miller. He notes that most SaaS companies don’t have the resources to build a separate on-premises version and then maintain a code base for two versions and containers have helped in creating portable applications.
