Fremont, CA: RMD Power and Cooling, the energy management vendor, has signed a deal to license the Hive Datacentres trademark. Now, they can expand their design and consultancy services as reported by Nick Booth of Data Center Dynamics.

Hive is currently not signed up with any other data center equipment supplier. RMD will be the sole licensee to operate under Hive Datacentres name, whereas RMD can continue to work with their subcontractors but also will plan to invest on training for its own employees.

RMD, founded in 1932 as a wholesale electrical shop in Glasgow, provides power and cooling solutions to keep data centre up and running 24 hours a day.  Currently, they provide data center services for both public and private sectors. With this contract, now they will be able to look into each step of design and building - from initial survey to handover and ongoing maintenance as RMD says.

“The Hive Datacentres trademark is a logical coming together of two excellent brands and I have no doubt it will prove fruitful,” says Gavin Maxwell. “The deal enables us to be much more flexible about the kinds of contracts we tender for and we will be able to lead projects where previously we could only have been involved as a subcontractor. This is a very positive step for us as a company.”
