Samsung Electronics Opens the Gateway for 6Gb DRAM in the World of Smart Phones
FREMONT, CA: Samsung Electronics announces the production of high-capacity memory product - 12-gigabit (Gb) LPDDR4 (low power, double data rate 4) mobile DRAM, based on its advanced 20-nanometer (nm) process technology to enable development of next-generation mobile devices with energy efficiency, reliability and ease of design.
Expected to significantly accelerate the adoption of high capacity mobile DRAM worldwide, Samsung has raised production of 12Gb LPDDR4 by 50 percent more over 8Gb LPDDR4. The new 12Gb version provides higher memory capacity and speed in mobile devices. In comparison to the existing 8Gb chips, it is 30 percent more faster with 4,266 megabits per second (Mbps), twice as fast as DRAM for PC’s and 20 percent less energy consumption.
With 3 gigabyte (GB) or 6GB of mobile DRAM in a single package using just two chips and four chips respectively, the solution can provide a 6GB LPDDR4 mobile DRAM package to allow consumers enjoy seamless multitasking and maximum performance within the latest operating system (OS) environments. The 6GB package can easily fit into the same space used for 3GB LPDDR4 packages.
