Service Providers Securing the Future of Virtualized Networks
The telecom industry has undergone a drastic transformation from 3G to 4G, along with long-term evolution networks (LTE) led by the fast penetration of IoT devices into the market. In parallel, mobile devices are transforming too. The modern mobile devices are as powerful as computers, with high storage capabilities and features than before. Consequently, this has increased the pressure among network providers to meet the requirements without glitches or interruption.
Currently, network software has become more advanced with software-defined network (SDN) and network function visualization (NFV), which has enabled network service providers to upgrade the quality of their networks to meet the security standards for virtualization. The advantages of SDN and NFV have allowed service providers to take better control of the network, besides offering improved scalability and flexibility.
The most important aspect when deploying a network to meet consumer needs is security. As a challenge which the network providers are yet to solve, customers are still required to run firewalls and virtual spaces to keep their data and transactions safe. There have been instances where a lot of application came into being that promised easy ways to win virtual games. Security professionals have suggested avoiding such software in order to avoid risks in terms of data loss or manipulation. In addition, consumers are also asked to stay safe from DDoS attacks or malware and even social engineering. LTE networks are the most vulnerable areas to get affected by these security threats, and therefore service providers are adopting VMware virtualization technology to avoid them.
