Silver Spring Networks Announces Smart Thermostat App and Demand Optimizer

FREMONT, CA: Silver Spring Networks, a provider of networking platform and solutions for smart energy networks, upgrades its Demand Response (DR) portfolio with an open, smart-gridenabled mobile thermostat app called CustomerIQ Thermostat App, and an updated version of Silver Spring Demand Optimizer Application called Demand Optimizer 1.1. This upgradation was announced at the Nation Town Meeting on Demand Response and Smart Grid that is seeing over 1Mn participants this year.

CustomerIQ Thermostat App, accessible by both web browser and a mobile app, provides utility customers with smart thermostat status and remote control capabilities. The app gets high speed connectivity through the company’s IPv60-based network and high quality through smart thermostat technology from Carrier and Energate. The device works well with ZigBee Smart Energy Protocol device. The app is available for iOS, android and for web interfaces to be used by CustomerIQ web users.

Silver Spring Demand Optimizer application that delivers precision forecasts and near real-time measurement and verification will now – with the release of Demand Optimizer 1.1 – have efficient Big Data analytics as well as support for more protocols and devices. These new features help in achieving fully automated two-way demand response over the smart grid or the internet.

Salient features of Demand Optimizer 1.1 includes supporting additional devices such as Eaton’s Cooper Power Systems and OpenADR 2.0b compliant devices for fully automated DR; prior previewing of DR event and forecast load reductions in detail even before data is sent to customer’s end devices helping reduce dispatch errors and narrowing down on relevant participant populations for maximum load shed; and saving a DR event as a template for dispatch during time-sensitive situations.

“Silver Spring’s open standards-based IPv6 network creates a continuous connection between utilities and their customers enabling innovative strategies for energy management and control,” said Matt Smith, Senior Director of Utility Solutions, Silver Spring Networks. “With deep adoption of our network and some of the greatest customer engagement success stories in the market, this latest extension of Silver Spring’s demand response portfolio will now offer utilities even more ways to empower their customers, grow program participation rates, and more precisely manage load.”
