FREMONT, CA: With an aim to offer a software-based file services solution, SoftNAS has integrated with NetApp and delivers SoftNAS Object Filer that runs on top of NetApp StorageGRID Webscale object storage.

The new combined solution offers unified shared file services for on-premise, private and hybrid clouds that seamlessly combine S3 compatible object storage and local storage into a single software-defined storage virtual appliance, while layering on rich NFS, CIFS/SMB, and iSCSI file services.

“As enterprises generate petabytes of data, business environments need instant integration between existing storage infrastructures and object storage. SoftNAS is software-based for immediate deployment, works across cloud platforms and protocols without sacrificing full NAS functionality,” says Rick Braddy, CEO and CTO, SoftNAS.

Major attributes of SoftNAS Object Filer for files services with NetAPP StorageGRID Webscale are general purpose file systems for one physical unified storage system, cloud migration from a public to a private cloud, back-up, video/media storage, user file home directories, large amounts of unstructured data, grid federation for replicating to and from multiple clouds and bulk shared file storage.

In addition, enterprises, remote offices, service providers and SMB’s can use the new solution without the need of additional storage hardware, application modification, or changed workflows. It enables customers to leverage the power of extensive object storage while continuing to serve the necessities of active file-based applications.
