Strategic Blue Achieves AWS Education Competency Status
Strategic Blue, experts in procurement of commercial cloud for the public and private sector, announced today that it has achieved Amazon Web Services (AWS) Education Competency status. This designation recognizes that Strategic Blue has deep expertise working with Education customers to cost-effectively purchase the commercial cloud services that supports their mission-critical workloads and applications on AWS.
“Strategic Blue is excited to achieve AWS Competency status for the Education vertical,” said Dr James Mitchell, CEO. “Educational institutions, even more than our other supported industries, have complex procurement challenges. This Competency is recognition of our success making adoption of commercial cloud less bureaucratic and less costly.”
AWS is enabling scalable, flexible, and cost-effective solutions from startups to global enterprises. To support the seamless integration and deployment of these solutions, AWS established the AWS Competency Program to help customers identify Consulting and Technology APN Partners with deep industry experience and expertise. The inclusion of Strategic Blue’s financial and contractual expertise within the Competency Program recognizes the important role Solution Providers can have in streamlining procurement processes to suit the needs of each customer.
Strategic Blue offers four services to commercial and public sector organizations:
• Blue Review – procurement recommendations driven by the combination of advanced historic usage and commitment analytics, and stakeholder interviews.
• Cloud Options – advanced resale of AWS, enabling each buyer to buy on financial terms tailored for their specific procurement needs.
• Pricing Insights – advanced data science applied to cloud pricing, enabling data-driven procurement decisions.
• Consulting – Cloud RFPs for public sector buyers of commercial cloud, expertise sharing for other AWS Solution Providers and much more.
Dr. Vince Kellen, CIO of the University of California San Diego, was instrumental in helping Strategic Blue achieve its AWS Education Competency status, commenting, “At UC San Diego we have a quickly growing number of researchers using the commercial cloud. Each researcher and department has their own set of grants, with different procurement requirements. By partnering with Strategic Blue as our broker we were able to lower costs and provide more flexible billing and usage arrangements that our researchers need, while still lowering costs. As a result, we are setting up an internal Cloud Center of Excellence team that focuses on helping our researchers’ solutions on AWS, while using Strategic Blue for the financial, pricing and billing considerations. We think this is a model for how higher education research can work in the cloud.”
