TES America Concludes Acquisition and Relaunches MicroTouch Brand
MicroTouch was one of the first to patent and commercialize Capacitive Touchscreens and was an essential part of introducing innovations as the ideal touch solution for commercial applications.
FREMONT, CA: TES America, a market leader for touch solutions, reported today that it had completed the purchase of some properties from 3M’s Touch Systems, a division of 3M’s own Group. In addition to the acquisition, TES has purchased the famous MicroTouch brand of touch displays and is relaunching the business today, taking back a cultural phenomenon that created the world’s leading touchscreen device almost 40 years ago.
TES has fitted MicroTouch with an all-new look and is expanding the range of capacitive touch displays, including the inclusion of all-in-one, multi-touch device systems equipped with the latest proprietary TES technology. “With our vast industry experience and factory-direct product, I believe TES can bring MicroTouch back to the forefront of capacitive leadership,” said Mark Littlefield, President, TES America. “When backed by TES, MicroTouch customers will not only get a broad product mix of components, monitors and touch computers, but also greater efficiency and flexibility through our regional engineering, local customer support and global warehousing capabilities.”
Additional TES properties obtained from 3M Touch Devices include Surface Capacitive and Planned Capacitive modules and screens for industrial applications in numerous industries, including casino games, surgical devices, public kiosks, shared tables, and financial transactions. Although TES aims to retain all current 3M Touch goods with unwavering customer service, the industry innovator aims to revolutionize the touch-system marketplace by placing the trusted MicroTouch brand as the leading force in the industry.
“MicroTouch was a product of the 80s, an industry icon that provided society a glimpse into the future. And, just as Hollywood gave us a vision for touchscreens thanks to TV hits like Knight Rider and Star Trek MicroTouch made it a reality,” stated Gene Halsey, Vice President of Product and Business Development, TES America. “Since then, touch systems not only have become ubiquitous, but they are about to enter a new generation of technological growth with limitless possibilities, and with MicroTouch paving the way.”
MicroTouch was one of the first to patent and commercialize Capacitive Touchscreens and was an essential part of introducing innovations as the ideal touch solution for commercial applications. Since the purchase of MicroTouch and the creation of 3M Touch Systems in 2001, MicroTouch was no longer the Capacitive Touch brand name. The initial entrepreneurial spirit never wavered, though, and MicroTouch proceeded to invent as innovative alternatives, such as the proposed capacitive, became industry norms. With the relaunch of MicroTouch as the standard-bearer of capacitive solutions, the history of this legendary brand is a full circle.
