The buying and selling of goods and services over a wireless device have become a norm in this digital age. With major organizations venturing into the mobile commerce arena, m-commerce is expected to scale great heights along with the e-commerce landscape. With the foundation of global organizations like Amazon and EBay pioneering in mobile shopping, there has been a significant rise in the m-commerce workforce. As the numbers are increasing at a rapid pace, it is estimated that mobile commerce encompasses 34.5 % of the entire e-commerce arena. The shopping experience of the customers has ensured content delivery of goods and services are faster, secure, and scalable making digital commercial transactions skyrocket in the past few years.
Mobile commerce has seen drastic changes in the past five years with nearly two-third of a jump in its users in recent years, according to The Integer Group. As the mobile consumer base is increasing, mobile marketing is at the center stage as a medium to connect with the audience within wireless connections. SMS, banner advertisements in mobile games and websites are part of the marketing strategies employed by organizations to reach out to a wider mobile audience.
To exploit the e-commerce business to its full potential, handset manufacturers like Nokia, Motorola, Ericsson, and other major companies have collaborated with network carriers like AT&T and Sprint to develop WAP enabled smartphones. The rise in a number of smartphone users on m-commerce has risen massively over the past few years thus paving way for the mobile applications to succeed profoundly as well.
