By CIOReview | Friday, July 17, 2020

The future of digital signage is continuously evolving; thus, staying on top of the digital signage market is more critical than ever.

FREMONT, CA: People want new and exciting ways to display and control the content; therefore, technology is adapting to meet this demand. When it comes to digital signage, the displays are not only getting bigger, brighter, and thinner but is also getting significantly smarter. The end users can now use digital signage to deliver experiences and not just push information. It can sometimes be hard to keep up with this increasing demand. Here are three trends that will shape the future of digital signage.

Cloud-Based Deployment

Traditionally, digital signage was updated with a memory card or a USB drive. While this was the best way for some time, it did mean screens were difficult to update in real-time as the content had to be created remotely and after that loaded onto the screen. Also, there was a risk of misplacing the USB drive, which is a nuisance and a security breach both. Now the cloud technology has changed this. Numerous digital signage solutions are now offering cloud-based software, which allows instant and secure updating of digital signage. This also provides increased scalability, as an updated display can be pushed out to multiple screens simultaneously at the touch of a button.

Automation and artificial intelligence (AI) are being adopted across all industries, and digital signage is no different. Managing and monitoring campaigns carried out by digital signage can be augmented with automation. AI can determine whether certain content should be shown to a specific customer after analyzing multiples databases and indicators. It can analyze a person’s goal while they are in front of a screen and determine the appropriate advertisement for that particular moment.

Proliferation of Screens

It’s quickly becoming usual to see screens in every business or store that one enters. It is expected that most, if not all, communication with customers being carried out through display panels and digital signage. Businesses and stores are embracing this change as it can enhance the customer’s journey and provide a more streamlined experience. Smart displays can show relevant adverts to shoppers and guide them to the correct area of the store, meaning customers no longer have to spend time searching for an assistant to point them in the right direction.
