FREMONT, CA: USAA, a financial service group of companies, no more relies on just passwords for its customers to login. It has now introduced biometric authentication as an additional security measure for its customers to authenticate and login to make hacking almost impossible.

The new system for customer login requires a mobile device to authenticate.  As a matter of multifactor authentication procedure, this systems includes a unique PIN, face and voice recognition which work concurrently with a security code generated by the app for each login.

“The use of multifactor authentication through biometrics is one of the most effective ways to increase security protection as traditional passwords become increasingly obsolete.” says Gary McAlum, USAA’s Chief Security Officer. “The financial services group also plans to test the use of fingerprint identification for future iterations of the app,” McAlum adds.

USAA’s face recognition requires users to look at the home screen and blink their eyes and for voice recognition users must read a short phrase. The decision to launch biometric authentication process across US follows a successful pilot in California, Texas and Florida. The new option will be available via an app update for iOS and Android devices.
