FREMONT, CA: VMware aids communications services providers (CSPs) with its new network functions virtualization (NFV) offering.  The platform will boost the NFV deployment easing the work of CSPs.  VMware launches the VMware vCloud NFV platform new VMware Ready for NFV accreditation program along with its new carrier-class support services.  The program also validates interoperability with NFV partner solutions.

VMware vCloud NFV combines the components of virtualization and management in order to boost NFV deployment.  The platform delivers a unified, multi-vendor and multi-function NFV solution supporting all applications in all stages of cloud lifecycle. It backs more than 40virtual network functions (VNF) from 30 different VNF vendors. Enabling IT to enhance the existing skills and operational experience, the platform extends a seamless integration with ongoing management of Telco clouds. VMware vCloud NFV is based on the following components:-

Production-Proven Network Function Virtualization Infrastructure (NFVI) Solutions

VMware vSphere, the virtualization platform for building a cloud infrastructure facilitates high performance, greater scalability and higher availability with lesser downtime for mobiles and fixed line services in the cloud. VMware Virtual SAN is a fully integrated enterprise-grade shared storage solution for hyperconverged infrastructure optimized for vSphere virtual machines supporting mobile core and IMS functions. By delivering critical L2/L3 networking functions in software, VMware NSX network virtualization platform backs CSPs to make optimum advantage of the entire data center.

Openness and Choice in Cloud Management

Through VMware vCloud Director-SP and VMware Integrated OpenStack, the company extends virtual infrastructure management (VIM) options.  VMware vCloud Director enables new self-service facilitations for NFV like vApp enhancements and tenant throttling.  The Kilo based OpenStack integration of VMware extends solutions such as load-balancing as a service (LBaaS), Ceilometer and Heat Auto Scaling in order to deliver more scalable, resilient and better performing OpenStack clouds.

Service Assurance with Day 2 and Ongoing Operations

For multi-tenant network functions,VMware provides ongoing service assurance with fully integrated and unified operation tools to support CSPs. VMware vRealize Operations Insight and VMware vSphere with Operations Management helps in maintaining Quality of Experience to gain customer loyalty and drive increased revenue.

"VMware's technology is enabling leading global service providers such as Vodafone, Ooredoo, IIJ, and Vip Mobile deliver mission critical network functions spanning mobile core and cloud," says Shekar Ayyar, Corporate Senior Vice President and General Manager, Telco NFV Group, VMware. "We continue to double down on our efforts to help CSPs create one consistent infrastructure environment to rapidly and securely build, run and deliver any traditional or cloud-native virtual network function."
