Wireless Sensor Market Bound to Scale High: Survey

By CIOReview | Wednesday, March 26, 2014

FREMONT, CA: A survey conducted by WinterGreen Research, an independent research organization, predicts that the wireless sensor market is bound to make a significant growth in the coming years. The report was generated after conducting two hundred interviews of industry participants, experts and end-users—taking into consideration the value of shipments and the average price to achieve market assessments.

The report states that the global smartphone count is expected to reach 8.5Bn by the year 2019. Driven by this number of smartphone proliferation across the globe, the wireless sensor networks market is expected to reach $14.6Bn by the year 2019. Wireless sensor network leverages technologies such as wireless technology, the solid state battery, the sensor technology, smart phone technology and the energy harvesting technology. More and more mobile apps are expected to be developed for sensor networks.

Wireless sensor networks can be implemented by converting ambient energy to usable electrical energy harvesting systems. Powering electrical devices are achieved by wireless connectivity of compact group of devices and sensors. Wireless sensors today are capable of monitoring information in a manner that was not possible before the emergence of smartphones and tablets. Earlier, the sensors were banking on batteries for power that required manual intervention every now and then. Today, the solid state batteries, super-capacitors and thin-film batteries power the wireless sensors.
