Although being commercially available since the mid 1990s, Internet Protocol (IP) telephony is still an emerging technology in the Unified Communications (UC) arena and has not been widely embraced by organizations due to operational and deployment barriers. A majority of the companies are either firmly planted in a Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) based architecture, stuck in a hybrid rollout to manage multiple TDM and IP providers, or in the process of migrating to a single IP-based network platform. Many firms are yet to realize the value of Power over Long Range Ethernet (PoLRE) switch capabilities in enabling IP based networks. “One of the most challenging requirements associated with migrating to an all IP platform is infrastructure requirements,” begins Oliver Emmanuel, President, NVT Phybridge. “In these cases, NVT Phybridge’s PoLRE solutions—8, 24, and 48 port PoLRE switches, allow organizations to reduce infrastructure costs, eliminate risk and disruption, and accelerate their IP telephony migration.”

Over the years, the Canada based NVT Phybridge has developed strategic relationships with its clients by providing PoLRE switches and making IP connections in distant places quick, easy and cost effective. The company has an impressive customer base, which includes the highest ranking government agencies, universities, hotel chains, retail chains, and other enterprise customers. “Recently we teamed with Cisco and Nemertes—a leading research firm—to survey customers who migrated to an all IP platform,” explains Emmanuel. “Many of these organizations used the PoLRE switches to eliminate one of the biggest barriers—Infrastructure.”

In one instance, the New Mexico State University (NMSU) wanted to change their traditional Private Branch Exchange (PBX) TDM system and decided to migrate to an IP based network. NMSU chose to implement Phybridge’s PoLRE switches, which eliminated infrastructure barriers and network complexities, fast-tracked IP migration by three years, and saved over $1 million for NMSU. “Knowing that we didn’t have to worry about having to rip-and-replace our existing infrastructure, helped us save valuable time and money,” says Ray Cadena, Manager, Telecommunication Systems, NMSU.

NVT Phybridge is significantly capitalizing on the IoT movement through its CHARIoT series of switches by making IP migration quick, easy, and cost effective. CHARIoT switches deliver Ethernet and PoE over single pair Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP), coax and multi-pair UTP with up to six times the reach of traditional switches. “We have designed the CHARIoT series of switches to compliment an organization’s production Local Area Network (LAN),” says Emmanuel. “This allows businesses to move to the IoT without compromising their business, while saving money and eliminating risk and disruption.”

FLEX 24, the latest addition to the CHARIoT series of long reach switches, is an enterprise grade 24 port switch that delivers high power—up to 50 watts per port and Ethernet connectivity—100 Mbps full duplex symmetrical, over two or four pair UTP with six times the reach of traditional switches. FLEX was designed specifically to support both long and short reach requirements, making IP migration simple, cost effective, and less disruptive.

Emmanuel believes that the IoT movement represents a significant opportunity for NVT Phybridge and the company will continue to build long reach networking solutions that make it easy for businesses to connect devices. Additionally, NVT Phybridge plans to partner with device and application providers to create solutions that simplify IP migration. “The feedback we are receiving from our partners is very positive and it drives us ahead,” concludes Emmanuel.
