In 2012, Red Clay Consulting developed SmartGridONE (SG1) -an affordable Meter Data Management (MDM) solution designed as a complete solution for smaller utilities or as a solution accelerator for larger utilities. Built upon the Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management v2.0 framework, SG1 is a flexible and complete meter-to-cash Meter Data Management solution. Utilizing an Oracle Utilities Smart Grid Gateway Vendor Adapter (L+G, MV-90, Itron OpenWay, Sensus, Echelon, Silver Spring Networks, etc.) or a pre-configured adapter built to work with Elster or any Head End System, SG1 can be integrated with any AMI to capture interval data, register reads and meter events.

SG1 comes loaded with pre-configured and pre-tuned California-based industry standard validation, editing and estimation (VEE) routines. It provides comprehensive and integrated error handling to ensure exceptions are handled in an efficient and timely manner.

The expertise of Red Clay lies in its upgradation process. Some of its upgrade activities include - Upgrade planning, Lodestar 2.x Migration, Definition and documentation of a comprehensive set of tests to document pre-upgrade system functionality, Test case, scenario and script creation, Test data prep, as needed, Upgrade test environment setup and installation, Upgrade application and testing, Confirmation and documentation of upgrade test results, Data migration, if needed, Upgrade roll-out to production and Training, as needed.

Since the company has close tie-ups with Oracle, much of its utility solutions are powered by the latter. Its billing component allows clients to easily adapt to the pricing structures and models required to win and retain customers. “The application supports almost any pricing structure, including multiple account and contract hierarchies, currencies, commodities, collars, caps and custom incentives and discounts,” says Beth Kearns, Managing Partner, Red Clay Consulting.

Interestingly, accurate aggregation is critical to business processes for utilities. Oracle Utilities Load Profiling and Settlement solution is used by Red Clay to profile and settle over 50 percent of the competitive energy markets in the U.S. It is the considered to be the fastest, most accurate aggregator of consumption and financial data available. Oracle Utilities Load Profiling and Settlement solution provides the tools to validate, edit, estimate, and aggregate usage data to forecast and settle with retailers and suppliers.
