The ability to move an application, or its components, between public and private clouds without any middleware has made hybrid cloud environments a new standard in the DevOps space. Businesses can keep certain workloads on-premise and address inherent security, maintenance, and upgrade issues while minimizing network latency. Although hybrid cloud equips businesses with such unique benefits, in the coming days, businesses need to more wisely leverage cloud data for seamlessly designing, testing, and deploying portable and resilient applications to a production environment. The Need and Game-changing Potential of Data Services

Red Hat and Samsung Collaborate to Drive 5G Adoption with Kubernetes-Based Networking for Service Providers

RALEIGH, N.C. - Red Hat, Inc., the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced collaboration with Samsung to deliver 5G network solutions built on Red Hat OpenShift, the industrys most comprehensive enterprise Kubernetes platform, and will help service providers make 5G a reality across use cases, including 5G core, edge computing, IoT, machine learning and more.

It is important for telecommunications service providers to adopt a consistent horizontal cloud-native platform hardened for their environments. This telco cloud enables them to use the same infrastructure for multiple use cases and reduce management and operational expenses. According to a Red Hat-sponsored report from ACG Research, open horizontal platforms can lower total cost ownership (TCO) up to 30% when compared to siloed vertically integrated deployments of virtualized radio access networks (vRANs). By taking this horizontal approach, customers have access to more choice and better service.

This collaboration will utilize Red Hats proven hybrid cloud portfolio including Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform and Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage. In addition, this collaboration will also utilize Samsungs 5G vRAN, vCore, MEC and management and analytics to help service providers extend 5G-based use cases, such as edge computing that can positively impact the customer experience.

The next wave of virtualization in 5G RANs

With this solution, service providers will be able to capitalize on the benefits of edge economics and vRAN. The Red Hat-sponsored ACG report found that using a common horizontal infrastructure in both 5G core and edge computing can enable operators to extend TCO benefits they gain in horizontal designs in the core throughout their infrastructure. Additionally, deploying horizontal clouds to vRAN sites enables operators to support new applications and services based on location awareness, reduced latency and scalability achievable in the distributed cloud.

Samsungs 5G solutions meet Red Hat OpenShift

Containerized network functions (CNFs) and virtualized network functions (VNFs) provide a path to transformation for modern telcos, leading to greater service flexibility and a faster delivery mechanism for new offerings. As such, Samsung received Red Hats vendor validated VNF Certification and plans to have full CNF Certification. This is the highest standard for mission-critical network functions on Red Hat OpenShift and verifies that CNF vendors with critical workloads today can effectively prepare their applications for a cloud-native future running in production on Red Hat OpenShift. Customers can more quickly achieve the full capabilities of 5G and edge computing with certified solutions.

German technology company automates public key infrastructure with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform to help secure communications and Internet-of-Things solutions

With Ansible Automation Platform, Siemens is now able to automate administrative tasks, help increase configuration quality, and help improve communication security throughout the company.

Siemens AG is an international technology group focusing on electrification - from power generation, transmission, and distribution to smart grid solutions and the efficient application of electrical energy - as well as the areas of medical imaging and laboratory diagnostics. Given the sensitive nature of its business, staying at the forefront of security technology is a top priority at Siemens. In order to reliably protect access to confidential information, Siemens’ 295,000 employees and 100,000 employees from its business partners use public key infrastructures (PKIs), checking the certificates and identity of public keys.

Siemens increasingly uses PKIs to secure Internet-of-Things (IoT) communication, and now maintains two PKI environments for different application use cases. Additionally, communication between service teams within the organization is expanding. These changes have created configuration complexity and increased workloads for Siemens’ PKI team. To support this demand, Siemens replaced its legacy automation solution with Ansible Automation Platform.

Red Hat Consulting provided Siemens with implementation support to help ensure that using the PKI environment would be more secure and efficient. Siemens worked with Red Hat architects and consultants to learn how to write Infrastructure-as-Code, embrace continuous integration practices, and test playbooks, so that hardening measures would be written in Ansible. While Siemens’ PKI team previously spent hours manually searching for unintended changes to its environment configuration, it has now avoided configuration drifts by deploying most changes as code using Ansible Automation Platform.

Siemens uses Ansible Playbooks to independently implement and remove development environments where necessary, as well as automatically install and test PKI software versions before publication. Along with the automation of manual administrative tasks, Siemens benefits from improved configuration quality and stronger communication security throughout the company. In the near future, Siemens plans to work with Red Hat to explore automating testing processes, with the ultimate goal to establish a common blueprint for continuous deployment.

Now generally available, purpose-built AI service delivers a trusted Ansible advisor to help extend and scale automation content across teams with greater efficiency, accuracy and trust

Red Hat, Inc., announced the general availability of Red Hat Ansible Lightspeed with IBM watsonx Code Assistant, a generative AI service to help enterprises accelerate IT automation across an organization.

A purpose-built AI service trained on Ansible data, Ansible Lightspeed with watsonx Code Assistant combines the power of first-hand experience with technical innovation to deliver content recommendations that are more accurate, consistent and specific to business needs. The service also enhances established ways of working as a natural extension of existing Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform workflows and alongside the full suite of Ansible content tools. As part of the Ansible Automation Platform subscription and natively integrated with the Ansible Visual Studio Code extension, developers and operators don’t need to log into or access a separate tool or service to access the potential of Ansible Lightspeed with watsonx Code Assistant.
