In an era where security and privacy are of utmost importance, it has become essential for organizations to track who is accessing what, where, and when within the campus or facility. Any oversight or negligence in this regard can invite the risk of security breaches. However, achieving this feat is never easy, given that the existing systems and standards are riddled with flaws—requiring a centralized server or demanding users to dwindle between multiple credentials. The hardening of password policies will also cause password fatigue.

To this end, Global Net Solutions (GNS), a smart security and Artificial Intelligence solutions provider, is promising a feasible way forward with its smart security solution—S-Badge.

“S-Badge is essentially a card with a fingerprint reader on top of it. The fingerprint sensor plays a vital role in privacy protection,” says Michael Elias, CEO, GNS. S-Badge’s fingerprint templates are algorithmic images, not optical images of a person’s fingerprint. It can conduct advanced fingerprint verification by measuring moisture, temperature, and electricity on live skin.

Since users carry their individual data and/or keys on cards, S-Badge eliminates the need for maintaining a centralized server or infrastructure. The decentralized architecture relieves organizations from the liability of biometric data while making it difficult for hackers to access sensitive information.

GNS also has a secure browser that allows users to access all the applications provided by the administrators. The browser comes with a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Built-in to establish a Session-Based Secure Link with S-Badge. Passwords and credentials are then transferred from the secure element on the S-Badge into the browser without any further intervention from the user. This relieves users from the struggle of remembering or manually inserting usernames and passwords. They are automatically protected from memory dumps, key loggers, screenshots, man-in-the-middle and brute force attacks.

S-Badge allows up to eight different Windows logins through a single card—no matter where the Account is AD or Local—eliminating the need for identity verification on each login or carrying multiple cards to different systems. In one instance, this feature saved one of GNS’ clients, a pediatric clinic, from the cumbersome task of manually logging into multiple computers and EMRs.

S-Badge allowed the client to save a significant amount of time (20 minutes on a 20 Patient Schedule a day per provider) and handle more patients for greater ROI.

GNS has incorporated multiple safety features into the card. A double-tap on the fingerprint sensor enables the owner of the S-Badge to discreetly signal an emergency, along with the badge’s exact location. Tapping the sensor three times will send an automatic active shooter situation alert. These safety features will make the card highly beneficial for school districts and colleges, allowing professors and students to send automated SOS signals during undesirable events.

GNS has designed a seamless user onboarding process to ensure the easy adoption of S-Badge. It takes less than 20 seconds for an administrator to enroll new users. “Organizations need to administer only the fingerprint enrollment process and verify users’ identity beforehand,” says Elias. More importantly, S-Badge provides a significant running time on a single charge—up to three weeks—even with multiple daily uses. This automatically makes the solution a perfect fit for busy workplace environments.
In a nutshell, S-Badge addresses a long-lasting problem in the identity and access management (IAM) space—the huge gap between security and convenience. On the one hand, the decentralized architecture relieves employers from the burden of ensuring the security of sensitive biometric data. On the other hand, it enables employees to easily log into different systems and web applications without remembering multiple usernames and passwords.
