Versa Networks
Secure Cloud IP Platform for Visibility, Control, and Resilience

Versa Networks

Kelly Ahuja, CEO
The evolution of multi-cloud and hybrid-cloud infrastructures has led to organizations reconstructing their corporate network architecture, in order to ensure greater visibility, control, and resilience of corporate ecosystems. Emphasizing the significance of flexibility with wide area networks (WANs) for such corporate ecosystems, Kelly Ahuja, CEO of Versa Networks—a company that specializes in SD-WAN branch networks—shares a noteworthy analogy that sheds light on the company’s proficiency in addressing challenges pertaining to corporate networks.

One of Versa’s clients had an interesting situation at hand when an employee was listening to music on a laptop through the Spotify application. As the laptop was connected to the internet through a corporate Virtual Private Network (VPN), Spotify streaming accounted for a significant portion of the bandwidth shared across the corporate ecosystem. The client could not mitigate the excessive data traffic across the allotted bandwidth, as they did not have adequate visibility or control over the applications that accessed the internet through the corporate VPN. With Versa’s solution in place, the client established a policy that allowed employees to use applications such as Spotify within acceptable use and bandwidth allocation policies, so that business critical apps would maintain bandwidth utilization priority. The policy ensured that the primary bandwidth paths remained unaffected by applications—that are not part of the corporate ecosystem— accessing the internet. A solution such as this allows Versa’s clients to monitor and regulate corporate networks effectively and safeguard them against infringements such as phishing and malware breaches that often occur due to third-party applications.

Versa’s unique value proposition lies in its secure-cloud IP platform that empowers organizations to attain business transformation by optimizing Software Defined Networks (SDNs). “We are on a mission to consolidate proprietary command line-based manual operations in hardware and streamline all of those operations and functionalities through software,” explains Ahuja.

The company’s SDN solutions enable clients to reap the benefits of Versa’s unified software suite that simplifies and automates various organizational processes, which would otherwise be achieved through multiple physical or virtual appliances. These benefits have earned the company a well-deserved recognition among its clientele—comprising over 65 service providers and 600 enterprises worldwide—as one of the go-to-solution providers in the SDN landscape.

Built on its Secure Cloud IP architecture, a next-generation software platform integrating security and networking services, Versa’s solutions allow organizations to orchestrate, visualize, and obtain analytics impacting their corporate network. This enables the elimination of redundant appliances such as legacy routers, WAN optimization devices, security hardware peripherals, and LTE backups through a single piece of software that checks all the boxes. Versa’s solution can be deployed at remote offices, data centers, public or private clouds along with WAN transports such as Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), broadband, or LTE channels for diversity and better network uptime. The solution has a built-in intelligence module to necessitate policies and prioritize tasks in accordance with the organizational requirements, which allow the network to run without external assistance.

Versa’s portfolio aids organizations that have multiple offices at different locations in gaining better transparency into the applications accessing the corporate servers. Adobe, one of Versa’s prominent clients, has deployed the company’s SDN solutions across their global network for corporate communications. The company’s SD-WAN routing and security functions helped Adobe work toward their vision of building an optimized network infrastructure to achieve performance milestones, deliver application-specific Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and accomplish organizational objectives. Its engagement with Adobe substantiates how Versa’s portfolio can be tailored to fit various go-to-market strategies of clients, through either a customized on-premise model or a do-it-yourself model for enterprises.

Versa Networks Releases Industry’s First SASE Solution Designed for Mobile Operators – Versa SASE on SIM

Monday, March 18, 2024

SANTA CLARA, Calif. Versa Networks, the global leader in AI/ML-powered Unified Secure Access Service Edge (SASE), today announced its release of Versa SASE on SIM™ for Mobile Operators. The patented solution leverages SIM-based identity for authentication and access control – enabling Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) to seamlessly deploy SASE services and enforce advanced security policies at the mobile network edge.

The Need for SASE in Mobile Networks

MNOs and MVNOs are increasingly challenged to grow their businesses in a market where basic connectivity services are becoming commoditized. Many MNOs are introducing new value-added services to expand revenues, improve customer retention, and diversify their revenue streams. They see security services as an opportunity but are unable to deliver them at scale cost effectively. As the workforce has become more mobile and remote, traditional architectures delivering security services are insufficient.

SASE has enabled delivery of cloud-based security services at scale for traditional IT users. It offers a more dynamic and context-aware security approach, ensuring that mobile and remote users have secure access to applications and data, regardless of their location.

Many of the devices connecting to mobile networks cannot easily accommodate security clients and introduce lifecycle management complexity. This is a challenge for deploying SASE into mobile networks.

What’s New?

Versa SASE on SIM for Mobile Operators blends the capabilities of SASE with SIM-based identity for authentication and access control in their mobile networks. By extending SIM-based identity to SASE services, MNOs can:

• Offer value-added security services to build network security and Zero Trust offerings into mobile services for IoT and IT devices without the need for an agent.

• Deliver scalable private network services by eliminating the need to provision private APNs per enterprise.

• Simplify operations by avoiding lifecycle management and monitoring across multiple agents, operating systems, and end-user devices.

“With the launch of our SIM-based SASE solution, we are setting a new standard for security and connectivity in mobile networks,” said Apurva Mehta, Versa Co-Founder and CTO. “Our patented technology not only simplifies the deployment of SASE services for mobile operators but also marks a significant step forward in advanced, seamless authentication methods. This innovation underscores our commitment to delivering unparalleled value to our partners worldwide.”

How Clientless SASE Works

Many types of endpoints in mobile networks are unintelligent, such as cameras, sensors, and thin clients. As these endpoints attach to the MNO’s field radio network, Versa SASE gateways use the subscription ID (e.g. IMSI) in the device’s SIM card, along with the IP address information, for tenant and user identification. With Versa SASE gateways integrated into the mobile network data path, SASE services can now be applied to these endpoints.

Enhancements Include New GenAI Firewall for Threat Detection and Data Protection

SANTA CLARA -
Versa Networks, the global leader in AI/ML-powered Unified Secure Access Service Edge (SASE), today announced enhancements to its AI capabilities in the Versa Unified SASE platform, introducing powerful features designed to improve threat detection, accelerate remediation, and bolster data protection. These enhancements enable security teams to more effectively manage threats and improve their security posture in an increasingly sophisticated and complex threat environment.

The Need for AI in Security

CISOs, CIOs, and their understaffed teams continue to grapple with a challenging reality: More security tools have not translated into better security. Teams struggle to find relevant insights as they face an avalanche of security data. Their traditional, manual detection and remediation methods are inadequate against the faster, more complex AI-driven threats, and increasing investments in personnel and tools have proven ineffective.

What’s New

VersaAI™ is an integrated set of AI technologies built into the Versa Unified SASE platform that delivers insights for threat protection, data protection, and operations. It taps into a data lake with the telemetry from across the network and security infrastructure – from the WAN edge to cloud, campus, remote locations, users, and devices – to extract AI/ML insights that are seamlessly applied across the Versa product suite.

VersaAI introduces several new capabilities supporting advanced security use cases, including:

Threat Detection and Data Protection

• GenAI Firewall expands on existing capabilities to limit shadow use cases of GenAI thereby reducing the new GenAI attack surface and emerging risks. It manages, monitors, and reports how organizations consume GenAI. With Versa GenAI Firewall, organizations can assess risks of apps, control access, and prevent unauthorized data movement.

• Added relationship mapping to UEBA (User Entity Behavior Analytics) that uses social graphs to detect anomalies, determine the blast radius, and quickly find the root cause of a security incident. Security teams can easily visualize risk and accelerate forensic analysis to drill down into the relationships between users, devices, and apps/resources. Security governance teams can leverage this functionality to adapt security policies, access controls, and compliance requirements.

Anomaly Detection and Response

• Explainable AI provides reasoning behind anomaly detections without using logs, making it easier for operations teams to understand AI-driven analysis and to respond more effectively.

• MITRE ATT&CK TTPs (Tactics, Techniques, Procedures) added to Versa UEBA improves the fidelity of threat detections and rapid incident response with detailed insights into adversary behaviors from an expanded library of attack behaviors.

“Our advantage lies in the extensive unified security and networking telemetry generated by our platform over our vast SASE deployment base,” said Kumar Mehta, Versa Founder and Chief Development Officer. “This extensive telemetry data fine tunes AI models to deliver highly accurate insights to bolster security posture in real time and enable human operators to fight AI with AI.”
