Volt Technologies
Building beyond the Go-Live

Volt Technologies

Mason Whitaker, President
For many small and mid-sized businesses, a Dynamics 365 Business Central project is only as valuable as what happens after Go-Live. It is about finding a partner who can bring enterprise-level rigor to complex operations without treating the company as just one more implementation in a high-volume pipeline.

Volt Technologies was built around that gap.

Its parent company, Sunrise Technologies, developed its project methodology through large-scale Dynamics 365 rollouts for global organizations. That experience taught the team how to structure deployments with greater speed, efficiency and cost discipline. When Volt was established in 2022 to focus on small and mid-sized businesses, it brought that methodology into Business Central while preserving a closer, higher-touch relationship with customers.

Mason Whitaker, president, describes the model as “white-glove.” Volt now works with complex SMB operations across manufacturing, distribution, retail, government, nonprofits and life sciences, where an ERP decision reaches well beyond finance. Inventory, purchasing, manufacturing, sales and the processes connecting them all depend on whether the underlying system is designed around the way the business actually operates.

For Volt, that responsibility does not end at Go-Live.

Weekly reviews, quarterly business reviews and annual planning keep its teams involved as customer priorities change. Microsoft’s technology roadmap, emerging technologies and the client’s broader business objectives become part of an ongoing conversation about what the platform should do next.

Whitaker says Volt measures success in decade-long terms.

“We view success with our customers as having customers for at least 10 years, so not just looking for that upfront initial implementation, but we're looking for long-term partnerships,” he says. “We view these relationships as transformational and not transactional.”

Business Central remains the heart of the offering, supported by Power BI, Power Automate, Copilot, Microsoft 365, Azure and other Microsoft technologies as customer needs evolve.

Knowing What Should Be Built

The value of long-term relationships shows up in the decisions Volt makes before it writes a line of code.

Its financial consultants include former accountants, Big Four professionals and CPAs, while supply chain consultants include former warehouse managers and operations professionals. Whitaker describes them as “people and process consultants” because they understand the workflows a system is meant to support, not just how to configure it.

The expertise changes what happens when a customer asks for a Business Central customization. Volt does not automatically turn the request into code. Consultants first examine the process, the business objective and what the customer is actually trying to accomplish. Existing functionality may already solve the problem. A process change may deliver a better result. Custom development remains an option, but only when it serves the underlying need.

AI makes that judgment even more important. Volt reports that AI-assisted development has increased its output of customizations and extensions tenfold, making decisions about what should be built more consequential.

“Knowing the code that you should be writing is the important piece,” says Whitaker.

For Volt, faster development matters only when the code produced aligns with the customer’s business objective. Industry and process expertise determine where AI-driven acceleration should be applied.

A Foundation that Could Grow with the Business

A military apparel manufacturer offers a clear example of what happens when a growing business moves from fragile, spreadsheet-based operations to a foundation built for scale.

When Volt arrived, the company was running its entire business from a single Excel file in SharePoint. Sales orders, purchase orders, products, customers, vendors and other master data all lived inside it. Employees called the file the “Bible.” It could be accidentally deleted, yet the company continued relying on it as its manufacturing operation expanded.

We view success with our customers as having customers for at least 10 years, so not just looking for that upfront initial implementation, but we're looking for long-term partnerships. We view these relationships as transformational and not transactional.

The problem was no longer simply an outdated spreadsheet. The business had reached a level of complexity that required an operating foundation capable of growing with it. Volt implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central as the ERP and financial backbone for manufacturing, purchasing and inventory, with CRM added alongside it. The manufacturer has since doubled its business, increased headcount and expanded operations while remaining on the platform. Volt has stayed involved, adding AI agents and new capabilities as the customer’s needs evolve, rather than forcing another platform change.

Whitaker says the relationship has grown far beyond implementation. Volt operates as an extension of the customer’s team, with close alignment to leadership and the direction of the business.

Building before Automating

The more autonomy businesses give AI, the less room there is for unreliable data or weak processes. For Volt, Business Central and the surrounding systems of record provide the foundation.

The more autonomy businesses give AI, the less room there is for unreliable data or weak processes. For Volt, Business Central and the surrounding systems of record provide the foundation. Business Central does not become less relevant as customers move toward AI. It forms part of the trusted operational foundation that enables inquiry and autonomous AI.

Its three-level methodology begins with reliable ERP and CRM systems, high-integrity data, secure processes and people who understand them. Whitaker considers this the hardest part because AI cannot repair unreliable information or weak processes. He describes the familiar “garbage in, garbage out” principle as “100x garbage out” when agents enter the picture. Once that foundation is reliable, Volt moves customers to level two: inquiry AI. Users can interact with trusted systems through natural language, extract and visualize information buried in their digital archives and make faster decisions.

Autonomous execution comes at level three. Having established trust in the systems and the information they produce, customers can begin allowing agents to retrieve data and perform actions on their behalf. Volt reports agents across more than 300 customer tenants, spanning finance, sales, purchasing, inventory and physical operations.

AI is also changing Volt’s delivery model. Internal tools accelerate migration, customization, extension deployment, governance and documentation, with initial data migration now occurring five times faster. For Volt, the progression is deliberate. The goal is not simply to give AI more autonomy, but to make sure the business is ready for it.

Beyond the System of Record

Reaching autonomous AI introduces another question. What happens to the business knowledge that never makes it into an ERP or CRM?

Important context lives in meetings, phone calls, messages and everyday interactions across an organization. Historically, much of that information has remained scattered. Whitaker sees AI creating a reason to organize it. Volt sees that architecture in three layers. It is expanding services to organize that context and organizational memory so agents can work with more than just transactional data. The goal is to give them a fuller understanding of the business environment in which they are operating.

People remain central to the model. Whitaker describes the future as “human-led but agent-enabled,” with agents handling more execution while people remain responsible for judgment, ambition and direction.

Volt reports sustained high-double-digit to triple-digit annual growth since its 2022 launch, as it expands its Business Central practice. Whitaker says the company’s mission is to become the leading Dynamics 365 Business Central partner globally, viewing that goal as one step toward helping millions of small and mid-sized businesses use technology to operate better.

That is the thinking behind Volt Technologies’ recognition as Top Microsoft Solutions Partner for Dynamics 365 Business Central 2026 by CIOReview. Rather than treating implementation as the finish line, Volt builds a Business Central foundation and long-term partnership that helps businesses evolve toward a human-led, agent-enabled future.

Deep Dive

What Business Central Buyers Should Expect from a Partner

Dynamics 365 Business Central implementations often fail at the handoff between software configuration and the way a small or mid-sized company actually works. A partner may know the platform yet still underestimate data cleanup or the demands that appear after go-live. Executives comparing Microsoft partners should look beyond implementation speed and examine how deeply a provider can understand the business before it begins configuring the system. Industry knowledge is one of the clearest dividing lines. Business Central sits close to finance, purchasing, inventory, sales and other core records, which means technical decisions quickly become business-process decisions. A partner that treats requirements as a programming queue can reproduce weak workflows inside a newer system. More useful partners bring enough domain familiarity to question process design and recognize where standard functionality should remain intact. They should also know when an extension is justified and how that choice will affect maintenance later. That becomes especially important in manufacturing, distribution, retail and other environments where transactions connect directly to physical workflows. Implementation discipline matters just as much as subject-matter depth. Buyers should examine how a partner handles migration, specifications, testing and governance rather than relying on broad claims about speed. Faster delivery has little value when documentation is thin or data quality problems surface late. Business Central projects also increasingly sit beside Power Platform, Microsoft 365, Azure and Copilot tools, making architectural judgment more important than isolated ERP expertise. The partner should be able to connect adjacent Microsoft services without turning every implementation into a sprawling technology program. Clear ownership of integrations and extensions also matters because poorly controlled changes can leave internal teams dependent on custom work they cannot easily maintain. “Volt Technologies’ consultants combine system knowledge with finance and supply chain experience, allowing implementation decisions to be tested against how the business actually runs.” Post-go-live support is another practical separator. ERP usage changes as reporting requirements shift and workflows mature. Microsoft releases new capabilities on its own cadence, creating another layer of decisions for internal teams. A partner that disappears after deployment leaves the business to manage these changes alone or start another procurement cycle. Executives should look for a defined support model with recurring reviews and planned improvement work, backed by a clear method for deciding which new capabilities deserve attention. That is especially relevant as AI features and agent-based workflows enter more Business Central environments. Reliable automation depends on trustworthy systems of record and disciplined process design before autonomous actions are introduced. A partner should be able to distinguish useful automation from premature deployment rather than treating every new feature as an implementation target. Volt Technologies centers its practice on Dynamics 365 Business Central for small and mid-sized businesses, while supporting the surrounding Microsoft stack where it touches the ERP. Its consultants combine system knowledge with finance and supply chain experience, allowing implementation decisions to be tested against how the business actually runs. Volt Technologies also maintains a post-go-live model built around recurring reviews and continuous improvement rather than break-fix support alone. Its approach to AI begins with data and process foundations before moving into inquiry tools and autonomous agents. For buyers who want Business Central expertise tied to business-process judgment and longer-term support, Volt Technologies merits consideration....Read more
