The platform keeps track of incident response from the point of generation, including tow requests from law enforcement or by private property owners reporting unauthorized vehicles. It monitors the tow truck dispatch and sends alerts to the storage facility owner when notices are due. With the click of a button it follows up by drafting a notification letter to the vehicle owner and sending it via mail— all complying with state laws. For instance, the state of Texas mandates the first notification letter be sent to owners and lienholders within five business days, followed by a second letter after 15 days, when there is no response.

Towing companies are also notified when letters to owners are sent and delivered. The platform is configured to flag the vehicle and send alerts to the storage facility owner when notices are due. This feature ensures that storage facilities don’t end up with a fine for missed notification while ensuring that the involved people know about the issue.

This prevents towing companies from modifying the charges, preempting unscrupulous operators who ignore the fee structure mandated by state legislatures. It also helps towing and storage facilities comply with state regulations.

Utilizing the platform, owners can find their vehicles irrespective of consent or non-consent towing. For instance, after an accident, if the owner wants to find their impounded car, they can enter the license plate information into the vehicle tracking tool called Find My Towed Vehicle and locate their car. This reduces calls and inquiries to the law enforcement offices regarding the status of their vehicles.

In cases where no one claims the vehicle or fails to provide documents to prove ownership, law enforcement auctions off the vehicles. VTS supports these auction efforts and helps new owners register the vehicle with the state licensing bureau, as every necessary document is already tied to the platform.
