Enterprises, telcos, and internet service providers are looking to improve their optical network performance to cater to the rising demands for high bandwidth globally. Although the existing solutions in the market provide the connectivity, they often result in limited bandwidth, channel capacity, and increased latency due to loss along the fiber channels. What is aggravating is the hidden costs that companies are deemed to bear as networking original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) levy an unending list of charges and fees for implementing, managing, and maintaining the solutions. Aware of these predicaments in the industry, Len Bosack, co-founder of Cisco Systems, took upon himself to put an end to the woes by founding XKL. An optical network solutions company, XKL is built on the maxim that clients should be in firm control of their destiny. “We are out to solve the client problems, not create new ones for them,” says Dr. Chad Lamb, chief systems architect of XKL. With such a mindset, XKL offers optical layer network protection along with transponders, amplifiers, and muxponders for datacenter interconnect (DCI), metro regional long haul, which helps customers build and manage their networks efficiently.

What differentiates XKL in the market is their client engagement strategy. Rather than having a mercenary mentality, the company sits down with its clients and understands their problems. “At first, we help them realize the full potential of their existing networking infrastructure by guiding them to fine-tune their network configuration and settings,” says Dr. Lamb. The company then assesses the right solution based on their unique requirements. They can pick and choose among the solutions and purchase what they need. “We don’t force solutions that do not fit their problems. We listen to their growth plan during the sales process and cater to them accordingly,” he adds.

Rather than adhering to the misleading pricing strategies followed by its competitors, XKL strictly follows transparent pricing. XKL’s quote is inclusive of the license and customer support costs, not just the capital expenditure. “What is unique about us is the 5-years warranty on all our solutions which have a history of being at the core of an enterprise’s network. We design the products keeping longevity and durability of the solutions in mind,” says Dr. Lamb. Lastly, XKL provides complete support to its customers post-implementation, which includes equipment replacement and software debugging, among other services.

We listen to their growth plan during the sales process and cater to them accordingly

XKL’s solutions are built with a familiar user interface that most client companies can relate to. “We don’t put our clients on a training spree where they have to take their eyes off their business processes. The intuitive nature of our solutions means that clients’ teams can quickly become expert at using our solutions,” says Dr. Lamb. The teams can have an elevated experience using XKL’s solutions that are developed on the same operating system (OS), control plane, and platform. So the teams can control and configure the solutions from a central location. All the solutions are built on a flexible architecture so clients can integrate the solutions with different platforms and tools without unnecessary process overhead or partnering with third-party integrators for the purpose.

On the security front, although most client companies trust encryption-based solutions, “They fail to realize that there are many layers of protection which they don’t fully understand,” says Dr. Lamb. In the current market space, OEMs propose encryption on the data plane, but the implementation of the encryption remains flawed. Conversely, XKL’s solutions are natively built to secure the client data. Even if an XKL solution is breached, the attacker cannot access the data plane.

Dr. Chad explains a client success story to narrate the company’s solution offerings in a broader prospect. The Smithsonian museum consulted with XKL for the upgradation of their existing equipment to meet optical networking goals. For its support, XKL received a quote from the IT Engineering Director at the Smithsonian that read, “Our service calls have reduced on our optical network by over 55 percent.” The client cannot be proud enough of their decision to have XKL as the foundation of their next phase of network upgrade and growth. XKL is resolute to create many more of such success stories as it continues to design reliable and easy-to-deploy solutions with robust performance for the upcoming 5G applications.

XKL Dramatically Simplifies DWDM with a New Integrated Product, Delivering Greater Control, Cost Efficiency and Easy Upgrades

Fully Integrated Mux/Demux Filters and Amplifiers Provide Network Operators with an All-in-One Solution That's Easy to Implement, Manage and Expand

REDMOND -
XKL, announces a new integrated offering for its DarkStar line of DWDM products. DarkStar muxponders can now offer fully integrated Mux/Demux filters, EDFAs (Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers) and OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometers), reimagining long-standing network procurement, management and expansion protocols to create easier, more cost-effective, built-to-order results. XKL's Darkstar products are deliverable within a 1U or 2U configuration based on individual requirements — with no hidden licensing fees.

With these innovative new configuration options, XKL dramatically reduces CAPEX expenditures for ISPs, data centers and organizations of any size. Furthermore, this ability to combine and configure solutions that closely align with customer needs enhances ease across network procurement, deployment, management and future growth. These advantages, unique to XKL, ensure network engineers get exactly what they need and nothing they don't — putting the choice and control back in the hands of the operators with a network solution that is truly built to meet individual business requirements.

Traditionally, when customers need to add additional filters, amplifiers or other components to their optical muxponder or transponder systems, they are met with a range of challenges. Either providers don't have those capabilities, require the customer to architect those upgrades themselves or charge the customer for a la carte integrations. These conventional procurement methods can be prohibitive to small and mid-sized organizations that struggle to keep costs low, require additional expertise or want to avoid unnecessary features.

With this product, XKL offers customers fully integrated and easily expandable options with no licensing fees — all backed by collaborative, consultative support. When a customer needs to expand, additional transponders or muxponders can be plugged into the existing system instead of adding amplifiers or new filter packs, making growth easy. These offerings are also stackable and compact to deliver strong optical networking results with less equipment to manage over a smaller footprint, delivering greater control, power usage efficiency and ease of use on a cost-sensitive business model.

"This improvement removes barriers that organizations typically face when expanding their DWDM networks. For example, before this integration, customers were required to run an optical muxponder and a mux/demux amplification system separately. Now, customers simply need to acquire XKL's optical muxponder to get the same results, unlocking significant advantages for ease of operation, scalability and more," comments Chad Lamb, Chief Systems Architect for XKL. "Of course, we still allow customers to run their network items separately for more filter and amplifier flexibility. But that underscores exactly what this new offering is about: choice — and the customer's right to get exactly what they need without being forced into one-size-fits-all frameworks. We're directly empowering businesses of all shapes and sizes to build more robust optical network solutions for their individual futures."

XKL has been delivering 30+ years of powerful optical networking solutions, putting its industry-leading experience and consultative care to work for the full spectrum of customers' advanced requirements. With a focus on delivering the very best of open, easy-to-use, built-to-order and cost-effective DWDM technology systems, XKL is known for helping a wide variety of organizations open new digital doors and leverage game-changing fiber optic networking solutions.

XKL will be onsite at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, held October 16-19 in Denver, Colorado, at Booth #550. The company will also attend NANOG 89 in San Diego on October 16-18.
