Dr Dirk E Mahling

VP, Technology, Alliant Energy

Dr. Dirk Mahling, CMVP, is Vice President of Technology for Alliant Energy, where he is responsible for overseeing all facets of the company’s technology strategies and deployment – information, operations, cybersecurity and emerging energy technologies. He has a broad and successful background of implementation, operations, innovation, and executive leadership, having served as Chief Information Officer at Seattle City Light, Senior Vice President of Alstom Grid North America and Vice President of Operations and Technology at Constellation Energy.In addition, he was CTO for a number of successful startup companies at the intersection of IT and energy. Based on this work, Dirk holds a number of patents in energy management and renewable energy. He also held leadership roles with Ernst & Young and A.T. Kearney. He is actively involved with research institutions, such as Fraunhofer’s Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) and the University of New Mexico’s Emerging Energy Technology Center (EETC), as a board member.

Dirk earned a Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science from the University of Massachusetts. He also has a master’s degree in industrial psychology from the Brunswick Institute of Technology (Carolo-Wilhelmina) in Germany. He is a published author of numerous books and articles, as well as a speaker at conferences and seminars on the way technology helps advance the utility industry.
