Nuala O Connor
Nuala O’Connor is the President & CEO of the Center for Democracy & Technology. She is an internationally recognized expert in Internet and technology policy, particularly in the areas of privacy and information governance. Nuala is passionate about the ways technology and the Internet can be instruments of global free expression and individual freedom, and she is committed to finding policy solutions that affect real people. Nuala has experience in both the public and private sectors. She was the Global Privacy Leader at General Electric (GE). She became the first statutorily appointed Chief Privacy Officer in federal service when she was named as the first Chief Privacy Officer at the Department of Homeland Security. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Nuala grew up in and around New York City. She holds an AB from Princeton, an M.Ed. from Harvard, and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center.
