Roy Aston

CIO, Barclaycard

Roy Aston is an experienced IT professional with over 15 years' experience in financial services. Roy is currently leading Barclaycard's global IT organisation as the CIO, responsible for technology strategy, delivering enterprise-wide technology platforms and running all IT operations.  He has accountability for over 4000 colleagues based in 8 different countries and a budget over of over £500m delivering services which allow over 30m customers and businesses to make and receive payments worldwide.   Roy is leading an exciting transformation within Barclaycard through the introduction of agile delivery methods, Platform-as-a-Service cloud based platforms supported by continuous delivery tooling.  Prior to this role Roy was the CIO for the European Consumer business after joining Barclaycard in 2013.

Before joining Barclaycard Roy worked for Citi leading technology within the UK Consumer business.  During this time he had a unique opportunity to lead a number of M&A deals as Citi divested of consumer assets within Europe.  Roy was the technology lead across a number of deals assisting with portfolio migrations, IT service transition and decommissioning. In 2007 Roy joined Citi after spending 11 years at the UK's leading online internet bank egg.  Starting as a developer Roy moved through a number of roles building out many of the core platforms, products and propositions with his most senior position being the Head of Platform Development and Deputy CIO.
