What are some of the major challenges and trends that have been impacting the IT sector lately?

For the past few years, components logistics and flexible working environments have been two big challenges for IT management executives impacting the delivery of projects, services, and in some cases also, business continuity.

Being technically prepared or a technical manager is not enough anymore for an IT leadership role. Developing soft skills and analytical thinking are necessary to contribute and add business value to the companies and, not less importantly, help other engineers to grow in operational environments.

What keeps you up at night when it comes to some of the major predicaments in the IT sector?

Just thinking about the ideas on how can we lead a small or big group of engineers or technical mindsets to understand the business operations and goals as a way to motivate realizing in a more realistic way the value that the technology departments are bringing to the businesses? IT departments also need to think not only about ways to automate or drive processes to perfection but also to make sure our engineering teams understand 100 percent the purpose of every line of code, infrastructure component, or service being put into production, this is where the real impact will be!

Can you tell us about the latest project that you have been working on and what are some of the technological and process elements that you leveraged to make the project successful?

For the last months, we have been focused on preparing the infrastructure for the next generation of business applications mainly served from the cloud, but at the same time, we keep the business continuity, supporting and maintaining our current legacy stack in the best conditions, but our transformation journey not only focuses on applications and the way we will operate adjusting and simplifying processes for the best guest user experience we need to provide but also migrating infrastructure to support the number of transactions that our operations have, from the check-in/out processes and also ordering services from the rooms or from anyway inside or outside our resorts.

What are some of the technological trends which excite you for the future of the IT sector?

I’m very excited about the ways that any data source can interconnect to applications with the growth for APIs, webhooks, etc., for then this data to be processed for a deeper analysis, then trigger automated actions, no matter if they are simple as turning lights on/off or to execute millionaire bank transactions, and this sometimes contributing to open source projects, creating own apps or buying someone else’s logic, but in the end, the sky is the limit!
